Freestyle skier and American Horror Story: 1984 actor Gus Kenworthy said he used urine to write an anti-ICE message in snow in a political social-media post shared before the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The image was not from an Olympic competition. He also urged people to contact their senators during negotiations over Department of Homeland Security funding.

TV Insider reported that Kenworthy posted a photograph showing an anti-ICE phrase written in snow between a pair of skis. In a follow-up Instagram update, he said the writing was urine. His caption linked the image to a call for people to contact their senators during Department of Homeland Security funding negotiations. Why was the post political?
The message opposed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Kenworthy’s appeal to contact senators came amid negotiations over funding for the Department of Homeland Security, the federal department that includes ICE. The post was therefore political advocacy shared on social media, rather than an action at an Olympic event.
Will Kenworthy be punished by the Olympics?
The International Olympic Committee said it does not regulate personal social-media posts. BBC Sport quoted an IOC spokesperson: “During the Olympic Games, all participants have the opportunity to express their views as per the athlete expression guidelines. Dame Katherine Grainger, chair of the British Olympic Association, said athletes were increasingly outspoken and that the IOC was comfortable with them expressing opinions.
