Misty is an athlete whose prosthetic leg keeps coming loose during everyday activity. She wants to get back to cycling training, so Link and pediatric surgeon Monica Beltran consider a surgical solution. Link proposes placing a titanium rod in her femur to help stabilize the prosthesis.

Monica is concerned that Link has performed the procedure only twice, and that both earlier cases involved adults. Catherine Fox pushes the plan forward because Misty’s parents are major donors. In the episode, Misty’s parents agree to proceed after the risks are presented.
Levi Schmidt, who is assigned to pediatrics and considering a permanent move into the specialty, assists. The rod does not fit at first. Link removes more bone, then completes the operation; the recap reports that Misty’s leg works afterward. The storyline puts three issues in tension: Monica’s concern about Link’s limited experience, Catherine’s institutional influence, and the family’s consent. This is fictional television drama, not guidance on real pediatric orthopedic treatment.

What changes for Monica and Schmidt?
After Misty’s operation, Monica talks with Schmidt about the emotional demands of pediatrics. She tells him that passion helps carry a pediatrician through difficult work, including the death of an infant. Her guarded manner is connected to a recent infant death, and Amelia spends time with her, suggesting a developing connection between them.
What happens to Mika, Teddy, and the prisoner?
Mika Yasuda and Teddy Altman assess Mr. Jiminez, a prisoner with a persistent cough. They initially suspect tuberculosis, but imaging points to cancer. He declines further efforts to prolong his life. Yasuda wants to look for clinical trials, while Teddy helps her recognize that his wishes should guide what happens next. Before he returns to prison, Yasuda gets him lemon berry coffee cake.

How does Dorian’s crisis affect Adams?
Dorian, who was shot earlier in the season, continues to refuse care and asks for a hamburger. When he later coughs blood, Richard Webber intervenes and saves him. Their conversation helps Lucas Adams see how often he has been pushing people away.

Where do Adams, Griffith, and Kwan stand?
Adams goes to Simone Griffith’s home hoping to reconnect. He sees Benson “Blue” Kwan there and initially misunderstands what he is seeing. Griffith and Kwan are roommates and friends, however, and Griffith has moved on from Adams.
Bailey’s effort to add wellness activities to residency runs alongside the relationship drama. The exercise includes practical supplies such as carrots, water bottles, and fidget spinners; Griffith and Kwan study and cook together.
