The limited box was announced on March 12, 2025, with a release date of May 30, 2025. Rhino said the 6,000-copy run would cover performances from 1969 to 1994 across 20 venues, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. The announcement is past; the official store currently lists digital downloads of the box, but does not establish whether the original physical set is available from resale sellers.
What is the Grateful Dead’s Enjoying the Ride box set?
Enjoying the Ride is an archival live collection assembled around concert recordings from the Grateful Dead’s touring history. Rhino’s March 2025 announcement described it as a 60-CD set featuring music recorded between 1969 and 1994. According to Rhino, the collection contains more than 450 tracks and runs for over 60 hours; those are label-reported figures, not independently audited measurements. Rhino’s announcement framed the release as part of the band’s 60th-anniversary celebration.

The box was announced as a limited run of 6,000 individually numbered copies. Its custom keepsake packaging includes a tour guide with liner notes by Jesse Jarnow, a producer’s note by Grateful Dead archivist and legacy manager David Lemieux, an essay from the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and photographs, including images from featured shows.
How many CDs are in Enjoying the Ride, and how complete are the shows?
The physical box contains 60 CDs. Rhino said 17 of the 20 venue sections present a show in full. The Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall sections instead draw selections from multiple performances, so the set should not be read as 20 complete concerts.
#1 Best Overall
The original recordings are credited to Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the recordings. Rhino also said that select performances received Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction; this does not mean every recording received that treatment. Rhino’s release details and the official Grateful Dead store describe the production and packaging.
What shows and venues are represented?
Rhino describes the collection as covering 20 venues. Its itemized selections span more individual performances than that venue count, because several venues are represented by multiple dates. The official product information lists:

- The April 1969 Avalon material opens with an acoustic Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir passage and includes “Dark Star.”
- The Fillmore West recordings include the first live performance of “Dire Wolf,” according to Rhino.
- The February 20, 1971 Capitol Theatre show includes a rare electric version of “Ripple.”
- The July 13, 1984 Greek Theatre show features a revival of “Dark Star.”
These highlights are described in Rhino’s announcement; they are useful cues for exploring the box, not a substitute for a track-by-track assessment.
Is Enjoying the Ride available on vinyl or CD?
The original archival box is a 60-CD release. Rhino also announced The Music Never Stopped, a shorter companion selection drawing at least one song from each venue, in 3-CD, 6-LP, and digital formats. The official store currently lists FLAC and ALAC downloads of Enjoying the Ride, as well as physical 3-CD and 6-LP editions of The Music Never Stopped. Its listings do not establish whether the 60-CD box is currently available from resale sellers or at what price. Check the official store for the formats it presently lists.

| The Music Never Stopped | 3-CD or 6-LP editions announced, with digital also offered. | Shorter companion selection with at least one song from each venue, rather than the full archival breadth of the 60-CD box. |
What do the release credits say?
Rhino Records president Mark Pinkus described the set as capturing “both the spirit of following the Grateful Dead and the magic of their live performances at these storied venues.” Lemieux said the collection spans more than 25 years and connects the music to the venues and journeys that formed part of the band’s story. Both comments appeared as part of the release announcement and represent the speakers’ perspectives, not independent reviews.
