Was Grant Ellis pursuing a music career?
No—not according to what he said in that February 13 interview. Ellis described recording as a creative interest, not a career plan: “I do like karaoke and getting in the studio, making a song…but I’m not pursuing a music career.” He also said, “I’m somebody who just likes to have fun. I’m creative, and that’s just me.” Those comments frame “Party Girls” as an expression of a hobby and creative side, not an announcement that he was becoming a professional singer.

Why had viewers already seen Ellis make music?
Music had appeared in Ellis’s television storyline before the single. Us Weekly reported that, in the February 3 episode, he freestyled an original song for Alexe Godin during a one-on-one date and performed an original rap in a group-date segment. Those were on-show performances; “Party Girls” is a separately cataloged single. The distinction is between playful or improvised moments on the program and a released track—not evidence of a declared music career. Us Weekly’s report.
ABC’s official biography describes Ellis as a day trader and former professional basketball player, and notes that he enjoys karaoke. That background helps explain why a studio recording could fit the personality viewers saw on the show, without implying a professional music résumé. ABC’s Grant Ellis biography.

Did “Party Girls” surprise Bachelor fans?
The single may have been unexpected to some viewers, but the available reporting does not establish how fans broadly reacted. There is no representative audience sample or quantified reaction to support saying that all, most, or a measurable number of fans were surprised. What can be said is that Ellis released a single after viewers had seen him perform music on the show, while he described music as a creative pastime rather than a career pursuit.
