What is known about the criminal case
In an August 6, 2026 announcement, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Micah Curtis Sykes had been arraigned on one felony murder count. Prosecutors also alleged use of a deadly weapon and great bodily injury to a vulnerable victim aged 60 or older. Sykes pleaded not guilty and was held without bail at that time.
The District Attorney’s Office listed September 2, 2026, for a preliminary hearing setting. The outcome of that setting, and any later change in custody or court status, has not been verified here. The charge and special allegations are claims by prosecutors, not findings of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
