Their conflict is shaped by unequal memory: Sadhana is losing hers, while Anamika carries the grievances of their past. Directed by Pushan Kriplani, the film was recorded in the International Film Festival of India’s guide and has festival history at Busan.
What is Goldfish about?
Anamika returns to the neighborhood where she grew up after her mother, Sadhana, begins experiencing memory loss. The two have been estranged, and the return brings Anamika into close contact with a mother who may not always remember her. The story is set in London during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, according to Scroll’s November 25, 2022 review.
The title’s emotional tension runs in opposite directions: Sadhana wants to hold on to memory, while Anamika would rather leave painful history behind. The film also engages with music, identity, mental health, family conflict, caregiving pressure, and support within a neighborhood. Its dementia storyline is fictional drama, not clinical guidance.
Who directed and stars in the film?
Pushan Kriplani directed Goldfish and co-wrote its screenplay with Arghya Lahiri. Kalki Koechlin plays Anamika and Deepti Naval plays Sadhana. The cast also includes Rajit Kapur and Gordon Warnecke. The Outsider Pictures distributor listing names Bharti Patel, Ravin Ganatra, and Shanaya Rafaat among the cast as well.

Was Goldfish selected for IFFI?
Yes. The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) film guide lists Goldfish as an Indian, English-language film from 2022 in “Gala Premieres & Special Screenings.” The guide also records its festival history at the 27th Busan International Film Festival. Scroll reported that the film premiered at Busan earlier in 2022 before its IFFI selection.
Why do listings give different runtimes?
The listed runtime depends on the source: IFFI’s guide gives 143 minutes, while distributor Outsider Pictures and Common Sense Media list 103 minutes. These sources do not establish whether the difference reflects separate cuts or a catalog error, so neither figure should be treated as a confirmed universal runtime.
