Mel Owens gave Peg Munson a custom Neil Lane Couture ring during the season 2 finale of The Golden Bachelor—but it was a commitment ring, not an engagement ring. As reported by People on November 13, 2025, the ring has more than 30 diamonds, an 18K gold band and a total diamond weight of 3.5 carats.
What the ring looks like
Neil Lane designed the ring with a three-stone centerpiece: a cushion-cut diamond between two triangle-shaped stones. Lane told People that the center grouping represents “happiness, unity and shared love,” while the two side stones stand for Mel and Peg as individuals. The reported total of more than 30 diamonds includes the ring’s stones beyond that central arrangement.
Lane said designing for a Golden Bachelor couple meant considering their lives before the show. “It’s very different working with the Golden Bachelor or the Golden Bachelorette, because in general I work with younger people who have never taken this journey before. I’m dealing with couples, people, that have had lives and rings before. So, I try to combine that magic with a lot of respect for the lives that they had before.”
Why Mel gave Peg a commitment ring
In the finale, Mel framed the ring as a sign of commitment and a way to give the couple time to decide what came next. ABC’s Bachelor Nation recap quotes him saying, “I have something. I have a ring, and this represents our commitment to love. To give us time to figure out together what our future holds. What do you think?” Peg agreed, saying they were “completely on the same page.”

That exchange was not a marriage proposal. Mel later explained the distinction in an ABC/Bachelor Nation interview published November 14, 2025: “A ring is symbolic of the commitment, but you have to live the commitment and stand by it with your actions.” The interview reported that the two were open to becoming engaged eventually but were in no rush.
Were Mel and Peg still together?
People’s November 2025 coverage of After the Final Rose reported that Mel and Peg said they were still together. That is a dated account of what they reported at the time, not confirmation of their relationship status now.
