Goku vs. Gohan—Gohan in Beast form against Goku using Ultra Instinct—is a Dragon Ball Super manga fight, staged as part of a mini tournament on Beerus’s Planet. The official preview calls it a clash of titans, but says both fighters are still holding back. It does not establish a definitive winner or settle which character is stronger.
Why Goku and Gohan fight
The matchup follows the battle against Cell Max. In the official story recap, Piccolo is knocked unconscious, Gohan awakens Beast, and he uses Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon to help defeat Cell Max alongside the others. Goku senses the powerful Ki from Gohan’s new form and goes to see it for himself. He proposes a mini tournament on Beerus’s Planet.
After a preliminary round involving Trunks and Goten, the tournament turns to the father-son faceoff: Gohan (Beast) versus Ultra Instinct Goku. The DRAGON BALL OFFICIAL SITE’s March 21, 2024 preview describes it this way: “Between Goku’s Ultra Instinct and Gohan’s Beast form, this fight is a true clash of the titans!” That is promotional narration from the site, not dialogue spoken by a character. Read the official story recap and preview.
Who won Goku vs. Gohan?
The cited official preview does not give a conclusive winner. It says, “But both of them are still holding back!” That qualification matters: the scene shows a dramatic spar, but the preview does not frame it as a full-power test that settles the pair’s ranking. Claims that this bout proves one fighter is categorically stronger go beyond what that official material establishes.

What the fight shows—and what it does not
The forms in the matchup
Goku fights using Ultra Instinct, while Gohan fights in Beast form. The official preview identifies those forms but supplies no numerical comparison, power levels, or technical breakdown of their capabilities. The supported comparison is the contrast the scene presents: these two forms meet in a high-impact spar.
The limit of the evidence
Because the preview explicitly says the fighters are holding back at that point, the bout cannot by itself establish an absolute strength ranking. It also should not be treated as a definitive tournament result unless a source covering the completed match supports that conclusion.
