Pilots hand them out when they have cards available, but they are not a guaranteed flight amenity. The collection began in 2003, and Delta’s 2025 Centennial series added special designs and a separate, limited gift-card offer whose current availability has not been established.
What are Delta’s trading cards?
They are collectible cards featuring aircraft in Delta’s fleet. A Delta spokesperson told Travel + Leisure that the aircraft shown corresponds to the type flown by the pilot handing out the card. Delta’s Centennial designs also include aircraft facts and stories.

For the 2025 Centennial collection, Delta described silver-and-blue designs featuring hot foil stamping and iridescent film on its customer-connections page. The cards are keepsakes, not a standard service travelers can count on receiving.
How the card program began—and went viral
Delta says its first aircraft trading card was a limited-edition MD-11 card released in 2003, ahead of the aircraft’s retirement in 2004. By its March 2025 announcement, the collection had grown to seven series and 68 unique cards.

A December 2023 Travel + Leisure story helped bring the cards wider attention after a TikTok video of a passenger asking a pilot for cards circulated widely. The outlet quoted Delta as saying employees created the program to share their enthusiasm for aviation roughly two decades earlier. Delta Senior Vice President of Flight Operations Ryan Gumm said more than three million cards were distributed in 2024 alone; that is a company-reported figure for that year, not a measure of current supply.
What was in the 2025 Centennial collection?
Delta announced that more than five million Centennial cards were ready for pilots to share beginning March 25, 2025. The announcement listed these aircraft:
| Collection group | Aircraft types named by Delta |
|---|---|
| Mainline | A220-300, 717, 737-800, A321neo, 757-200, 767-300, A330-900 and A350 |
| Delta Connection | CRJ-900 and E175; card availability depended on the carrier |
The production figure and aircraft list describe Delta’s 2025 announcement; they do not establish how many cards remain available now or what a particular pilot has on hand.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can you ask a Delta pilot for a card?
- Choose an appropriate moment. Do not interrupt a pilot’s operational duties or slow boarding and deplaning.
- Ask politely, for example: “If you have any trading cards available, may I have one?”
- Accept a no graciously. A pilot may not carry cards or may have run out.
Delta has encouraged travelers to engage with pilots, but card distribution is not promised on every flight. Asking does not entitle a passenger to a card.
Can you get the cards without asking a pilot?
Delta announced a separate, limited route to two cards featuring Centennial liveries: a commemorative set offered with the purchase of a physical Delta gift card. That was a specific offer announced for the 2025 Centennial series; the announcement does not confirm that the gift-card set is still available. It is distinct from the regular aircraft cards pilots hand out, and Delta’s announcement does not establish that the ordinary cards are sold to the public.
