That is the gist of the reactions collected by io9/Gizmodo on March 26, 2024—not a poll or a formal consensus score. The individual responses were more varied than the headline’s “little else” suggests.
What the first reactions praised
The strongest common thread in the March 26 roundup was the spectacle: large-scale Titan battles, vivid visuals and a finale built around monster mayhem. Aaron Neuwirth cited “wild kaiju action” among the film’s strengths, while Eric Goldman called the final fight sequences “pure monster mayhem delight.” Some reactions also described the movie as a fun ride, praised its color and tone, or saw it as a particularly strong Kong story.
That enthusiasm was not uniform, and praise for the action did not mean every respondent thought the whole film worked. The roundup includes reactions that called the movie underwhelming or a downgrade as well as those that found it enjoyable.
Why the human story drew criticism
Several reactions found the people and their story less successful than the Titans. Germain Lussier said, “There is a fresh approach to the characters, which works, but it never quite gels with the main story. Dan Stevens does rip though.” Tessa Smith criticized the slow start and cheesy dialogue; Goldman described the human material as clunky.

The criticism was not simply that the film had human characters. Lussier liked the fresh approach, but felt it did not connect with the main story. That distinction helps explain the headline: “little else” summarizes the roundup’s reservations about the human-scale material, rather than claiming that every reaction dismissed everything outside the action.
How to read the roundup
These were selected early reactions, attributed to individual commentators in io9/Gizmodo’s March 26, 2024 article. They are useful for understanding what those writers noticed, but they do not establish how audiences generally felt. The roundup gives no survey, score, or reaction tally, and its overall framing is an editorial synthesis of varied comments.

A later Associated Press review offered a separate critical perspective: it also emphasized the monster spectacle and found the human grounding limited. The AP listed the film at 115 minutes and rated it PG-13 for creature violence and action. That review provides context, not proof that the early reactions represented a broader consensus.

In a March 31, 2024 report, the Associated Press said the film had an estimated $80 million North American opening on 3,861 screens. That was a Sunday studio estimate, not a measure of critical or audience agreement; box-office performance cannot turn the curated first reactions into a poll.
