Glen Powell’s reported move into audio storytelling is The Best Man’s Ghostwriter, a 10-episode Audible Original comedy in which he produces and stars. A September 15, 2024, interview with BGR describes the series as a story about a professional best-man speechwriter whose work and personal life collide. Powell presents audio as a format that lets sound and listeners’ imaginations shape a scene—not as a replacement for every visual story.
What is Glen Powell’s Audible podcast?
The Best Man’s Ghostwriter is the title Andy Meek’s September 15, 2024, BGR interview identifies as Powell’s Audible Original podcast. The interview reports that Powell produces and stars in the comedy, which runs for 10 episodes. It is evidence of this one audio storytelling project, not of a broader career launch.
The series was written by Matthew Starr. BGR names Nicholas Braun, Ashley Park, D’Arcy Carden, Lance Bass, Lukas Gage, Alex Wolff, and Debra Messing among its participants. Those are credits reported in the interview, rather than a current official cast listing.
What is The Best Man’s Ghostwriter about?
The central character, Nate, is a speechwriter-for-hire who helps men prepare best-man speeches. The story also turns to Nate’s own engagement and the fallout from a friendship breakup, bringing the professional demands of weddings into contact with his personal relationships.

That premise gives the audio format a natural setting for sound-led scenes: a wedding offers recognizable voices, music, and social rituals, while a speech can reveal what a character thinks about friendship and commitment. The BGR interview describes the show as a comedy; it does not provide episode-by-episode details.
Why does Powell say he wanted to tell a story in audio?
Powell told BGR that traditional storytelling needs to adapt to the struggle to hold people’s attention. He described audio as a way to place the listener inside a character’s head and focus storytelling on sound:

“We’re in a time for humanity where it’s very hard to get people’s attention. Classic storytelling has to evolve, and what’s fascinating about this is — it’s interesting how being inside someone’s head just on an audio level, isolating that variable and telling stories with just that variable, it creates a new level of engagement.”
He also pointed to the possibilities of shaping a wedding scene through sound:

“And there’s all these interesting ways you can manipulate sound around a wedding. It’s a full experience — you don’t feel like you’re being shortchanged at all by not getting any sort of visuals. Your imagination fills in the blanks.”
Those are Powell’s views on the medium, as quoted in the interview—not independent findings about how listeners respond. His point is that audio asks the audience to imagine the visuals while sound builds a scene’s atmosphere, comedy, and emotion.
