GivingTuesday falls on December 1, 2026, in the United States—but helping does not have to wait for that date, and it does not require a donation. You can give money, time, skills, useful goods, your voice, or a simple act of kindness. Choose an approach that fits your capacity and responds to a real need.
When is GivingTuesday 2026?
GivingTuesday is December 1, 2026, in the United States, according to GivingTuesday’s U.S. page. It is also a year-round movement, so the date can be a prompt to help rather than a deadline for generosity, as the organization explains in its FAQ.
The scale of participation is one measure of the day’s reach: GivingTuesday Data Commons reports that 38.1 million people took action across the United States in 2025, and $4.0 billion was raised in the country that year, a 13.0% increase in dollars raised compared with 2024. These figures describe collective activity; they do not mean that every contribution must be financial.
Five ways to make a difference
GivingTuesday’s guidance recognizes many forms of generosity. The five ideas below organize those options around what you can offer; they are not a ranking, and they are not the only ways to participate.

1. Donate to a cause you trust
If you are able and want to give money, choose a cause that matters to you and use the organization’s official giving channel. GivingTuesday’s Toolkit for Givers suggests contributing to a local cause or working with others on a community issue.
Before donating, make sure the payment page belongs to the organization you intend to support. Giving money is one option—not a requirement for taking part.
2. Give time or skills
Volunteering can mean a regular commitment, but it can also start with a small, specific offer. GivingTuesday suggests virtual volunteering, sharing professional expertise with a nonprofit, or calling a senior who may be lonely.

3. Speak up or raise awareness
You can help by drawing attention to a cause or organizing people around a local concern. GivingTuesday’s toolkit suggests starting an advocacy campaign and rallying a network to address an issue.
Keep the action concrete: share information from a reliable organization, invite others to learn about a local need, or coordinate a group effort. Make sure the information you pass along is accurate and that any campaign directs people to a legitimate source.

4. Donate goods an organization has requested
Useful supplies can help, but there is no universal donation list that works for every recipient. GivingTuesday includes donating goods and extra supplies among its suggested ways to participate; its FAQ also describes giving in a range of forms.
Contact the receiving organization before collecting, buying, or dropping off items. Ask what it currently needs, what condition items must be in, and how and when it accepts them. That check helps ensure your contribution fits the recipient’s actual needs.

There is no official ranking of these actions by impact. Let your available time and resources—and the recipient’s needs—guide the choice.
- Have little time? A call, a useful introduction, or a simple act of kindness may fit.
- Have a skill to share? Ask a nonprofit about a defined volunteer task, including remote work.
- Want to contribute supplies? Confirm the organization’s current request before gathering anything.
- Want to involve others? Choose a local issue and agree on one practical way to respond together.
- Prefer to give money? Select a cause you trust and donate through its official channel.
GivingTuesday’s Toolkit for Givers describes the range simply: “GivingTuesday is about giving of all types – some may choose to give a financial contribution to their favorite cause, others will help their neighbors, start an advocacy campaign, donate goods or extra supplies, or just share gratitude.”
