How the rings resolve Bea’s haunting
Bea died in 1928 after putting on a ring connected to a curse, and her spirit remained bound to it. Cole finds the ring after moving into her former home. Grieving his father, he forms a connection with Bea, who helps him reconnect with music.

Cole and his classmate Lydia discover that the ring is one of a pair. The curse makes separating the rings dangerous until they are brought back together. Reuniting them does not turn Bea into a living person in Cole’s present-day world: she is returned to the 1920s, where she can continue the life that was cut short.
What Cole learns from the photo album
After Bea’s return to her own era, Cole finds an old photo album that records what became of her. It shows that she lived a full life: she became a pilot, married, and grew old with a family. The album gives Cole—and the viewer—evidence that Bea was not simply erased when the haunting ended.

What the ending means
The film’s events support a reading of the ending as an act of release rather than a conventional supernatural-romance reunion. Cole lets Bea go even though that ends their relationship in the present. Her documented future eases the loss, while Cole’s renewed sense of purpose suggests that their bond helped him begin to move through grief. Those are interpretations of the ending; Netflix confirms the premise of Cole’s grief, his bond with Bea, and the curse, but the available sources do not establish a filmmaker’s stated interpretation.

There is a related book, Girl Haunts Boy: A Novel by Cesar Vitale. Publisher ABRAMS lists its ebook as ISBN 9798887076775, published October 22, 2024, at 272 pages. Its synopsis says Cole and Bea develop strong feelings and that Cole finds a way to undo the curse, but it does not establish whether the novel ends exactly like the film. The film’s outcome should not be assumed to apply to the book without checking the novel itself. ABRAMS’ book listing provides the publication details and synopsis.
