The parties stipulated to dismiss the case with prejudice, but the Associated Press reported when the settlement was announced in August 2025 that a judge still had to formally dismiss it. No settlement amount or specific terms were disclosed, and no court ruling found that the firing was unlawful.
Why did Gina Carano sue Disney?
Carano, who played Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, filed suit on February 6, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The defendants were The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm, and Huckleberry Industries. Her complaint alleged discrimination, retaliation, and other employment-related wrongdoing. Those were allegations by Carano, not findings established at trial. The court docket and filings identify the case and its claims.
What happened in the lawsuit before the settlement?
On July 24, 2024, the court denied the defendants’ motion to dismiss. That procedural ruling allowed the lawsuit to continue; it did not determine whether Carano’s claims were true or decide that Disney had acted unlawfully. The court’s July 24, 2024 order explains the ruling.
In August 2025, Lucasfilm and Disney announced an agreement with Carano to resolve the pending case. The parties stipulated to dismissal with prejudice, a disposition that bars the same case from being filed again. In its contemporaneous report, the AP said formal dismissal by a judge was still pending. The reports cited here do not establish whether a judge later entered that order.
