Gina Carano’s lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm did not go to trial. The parties settled in August 2025, before a proposed September 29, 2025 trial date. The settlement terms were not made public. The July 2024 ruling that prompted reports of a legal setback for Disney only allowed the case to proceed; it did not decide who was right.
Did Gina Carano’s lawsuit against Disney go to trial?
No. The parties settled before the proposed trial date. The September 29, 2025 date appeared in a July 2024 scheduling report as a proposed jury-trial date, not a guarantee that a trial would take place. The Associated Press reported on August 7, 2025, that the parties had settled and jointly sought dismissal with prejudice.
At the time of the AP report, a judge still needed to formally dismiss the case. The report does not establish whether that later court action occurred, so the confirmed update is that the parties settled and sought dismissal—not that a specific later docket entry was made.
What did the judge rule in 2024?
On July 24, 2024, U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett denied Disney, Lucasfilm and Huckleberry Industries’ motion to dismiss. The court’s order said it “DENIES the Motion.” That meant the complaint was not dismissed at that stage and the lawsuit could continue.

It was a procedural ruling, not a verdict or final judgment. The judge did not find that Disney had violated the law, determine that Carano’s allegations were true, or award damages. The case ended in a settlement before the proposed trial.
What was Carano’s lawsuit about?
Carano filed her complaint in federal court in California on February 6, 2024, against The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC and Huckleberry Industries (US) Inc. She alleged wrongful termination and discrimination related to social-media posts after her removal from The Mandalorian. Those claims were allegations in a complaint, not findings by a court.
