Geralt of Rivia is the player character and famed monster slayer at the center of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game follows his search for his adopted daughter, Ciri, as he travels through Velen, Novigrad and Skellige. His witcher training explains his distinctive appearance and fighting skills; his bonds with Ciri and other companions give that monster-hunting journey its personal stakes.
Who is Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3?
CD PROJEKT RED describes Geralt as a famed monster slayer exploring a dark fantasy open world. In the game, he is the character players control, taking contracts and confronting dangers while pursuing Ciri before the Wild Hunt can claim her power. The publisher names Velen, Novigrad and Skellige among the regions of that journey. CD PROJEKT RED’s game page provides the official premise.
The story continues in two major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which the publisher lists as part of Geralt’s Witcher 3 story.
Where was Geralt trained?
The game character guide says Geralt was raised at Kaer Morhen and trained there as a witcher of the Wolf School. Witchers are monster hunters, and the guide presents Geralt’s upbringing as the foundation of his profession and combat expertise. The publisher’s game page establishes his role as a monster slayer; the specific training details come from the game character guide.

Why does Geralt have white hair and yellow eyes?
The character guide attributes Geralt’s white hair and cat-like yellow eyes to the experiments and mutations he underwent during witcher training. It also describes him as fast and athletic, with expertise in swordplay and combat signs—abilities that suit his work hunting monsters. These are descriptions of the fictional character and the game’s portrayal, not real-world biological claims.
Who are Ciri, Yennefer, Triss and Dandelion to Geralt?
Geralt’s relationships connect the open-world adventure to people he cares about. The game character guide describes Ciri as his ward and centers the main story on his search for her. Dandelion is a close friend. Yennefer and Triss are important companions and romantic relationships in the game’s character context; the guide does not make those details a single, franchise-wide statement of canon. The guide’s character reference is the source for these relationship descriptions.

How old is Geralt in The Witcher 3?
The publisher’s game description and the cited character guide do not state Geralt’s age. They establish his role, background and relationships, but do not support assigning him a specific number for The Witcher 3.
The game portrayal and wider Witcher lore
Geralt also appears in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher books and other adaptations, but details from those continuities should not automatically be treated as game facts. This reference focuses on The Witcher 3: its publisher’s description establishes the game premise, while the character guide supplies the training and relationship details above. Broader chronology from fan wikis is not needed to explain his role in this game.
