On October 18, 2022, Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter, was identified in contemporaneous coverage as representing the family in plans to sue Ye and associated parties. Why the family objected to Ye’s remarks
The announcement followed Ye’s discussion of Floyd’s death and fentanyl on Drink Champs. Keep that discussion separate from the official cause-of-death finding: NPR reported that the Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled Floyd’s death a homicide. NPR’s account also described the medical examiner’s finding that Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes. What is known about the filing and outcome
Contemporary coverage did not describe the filing status consistently. The Los Angeles Times said the matter was filed based on a news release; NPR framed it as a plan to file; and The FADER noted it had sought independent confirmation after reports that the action had already been filed.
