Gene Hackman’s estate auction has concluded: Bonhams offered scripts, awards, art and personal items across a series of sales in November and December 2025. Artnet News reported a combined $3 million result for more than 400 lots, all of which found buyers. The figures cover three sales; Bonhams’ catalog describes one of them, its Los Angeles online sale.
What was auctioned?
The sales brought together Hackman’s personal creative materials and keepsakes from his film career with collected art and other objects. The Associated Press preview described a still-life painting by Hackman, Golden Globes associated with Unforgiven and The Royal Tenenbaums, a wristwatch, an Auguste Rodin bronze and a 1957 Milton Avery oil painting. The preview shows the range of items offered, not their final prices.

Bonhams’ catalog for its Los Angeles online sale, The Gene Hackman Collection: A Life in Art, lists sale 32212 and lots 301–490. It is a catalog of that sale, not a complete catalog of all three sales.
When did the sales take place?
The auction is historical, not upcoming. Bonhams lists its Los Angeles online sale as running November 25–December 4, 2025. Artnet News reports results for three sales held November 19–December 4, 2025; those dates describe the broader series, not just the cataloged Los Angeles sale.

How much did the collection sell for?
Artnet News reported that the three sales realized $3 million in total and that all 400-plus lots found buyers. That is the combined result across the series, not a price for the Los Angeles catalog or for any single item.
Artnet also reported that Hackman’s three Golden Globes together realized more than $125,000. The reported combined amount exceeded presale expectations by as much as 17 times; that comparison applies to the three awards together, not to every award or lot.

What the reported results do—and do not—show
The available reporting gives headline totals and the combined result for the three Golden Globes, but not a complete final-price list for every lot or the estate’s proceeds after any costs. The auction catalog and reporting also do not establish that the original lots remain available for purchase or are sold through Amazon. The sales’ results are best understood as a record of what Bonhams offered and what was reported afterward.
Bonhams representative Anna Hicks described the sales as offering “an intimate portrait of Hackman’s private world,” as quoted by the Associated Press.
