His Broadway debut came in 2002 as Jimmy Smith in Thoroughly Modern Millie, a performance that earned him his first Tony nomination. The Broadway League’s career summary lists later credits including La Cage aux Folles, Hair, The Book of Mormon, She Loves Me, Waitress and Hello, Dolly!.
Which awards did Gavin Creel win?
Creel received Tony nominations for Best Actor in a Musical for Thoroughly Modern Millie and Hair. In 2017, he won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for playing Cornelius Hackl in the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!, opposite Bette Midler.

How did Gavin Creel die?
Creel died on September 30, 2024, at his Manhattan home. Publicist Matt Polk told the Associated Press that the cause was metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma and that Creel had been diagnosed in July 2024.

The Broadway League announced a theatre marquee tribute in Creel’s memory. Midler, his Hello, Dolly! co-star, remembered him in a post on X, saying: “I looked forward to working with him every single night. He was fantastic. I can’t believe he’s gone. What a loss.”
