As Stranger Things moved toward the end of production, Gaten Matarazzo said his feelings shifted from being ready to finish to finding it increasingly hard to let go. He also previewed new character pairings for the final season, including combinations Dustin Henderson had not shared before.
As production neared its end, the experience began to feel different
In an interview recounted by Justin Carter for Gizmodo on September 29, 2024, Matarazzo reflected on spending much of his life playing Dustin. “At this point, I’ve almost been doing Stranger Things longer than I haven’t,” he said, as quoted by Gizmodo.
He described the years on the show as passing with startling speed: “It’s been a pretty jarring thing to realize how quickly it all flew by.” Memories of the early seasons still felt close to him, even as the production approached its final stretch.
He found letting go increasingly difficult
Matarazzo said he had initially felt ready to complete the final season. As its end came nearer, however, he became more reflective about leaving a long-running project and the people around it. “Coming to terms with letting go is increasingly difficult, in a work and life sense,” he said.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That tension is the heart of his account: finishing the work and being emotionally ready to leave it were not the same thing. His comments concern the personal experience of an ending, not a prediction about the season’s plot or quality.
He previewed different combinations among the cast
Matarazzo also said the main cast would be paired differently from their usual groups. Dustin, in particular, would spend screen time with characters he had worked with before as well as characters he had not. He described the approach as “a good balance of familiarity and keeping that family close,” while also exploring “how much we can elevate these characters with each other.”

Gizmodo’s article was published in September 2024; its expectation at the time that the final season would arrive in 2025 is historical, not current release information.
