Brooks denied the allegations. The complaint and denial are opposing parties’ accounts—not findings that establish what happened.
What Roe’s lawsuit alleges
Roe filed the civil complaint on October 3, 2024, in Los Angeles Superior Court. The complaint says she had worked as a hair and makeup artist for Brooks’s wife, Trisha Yearwood, since 1999, and began working for Brooks in 2017. Those employment details are allegations in the complaint.

The central allegation is that Brooks raped Roe during a work trip to Los Angeles in 2019. The complaint also describes other alleged sexual misconduct. These claims have not been established by a court finding in the materials available here. The Associated Press reported on the filing; the plaintiff’s counsel, Wigdor LLP, announced the complaint and published it.
Brooks’s response and the Mississippi lawsuit
Brooks denied Roe’s allegations. The Associated Press reported that he acknowledged trying to prevent the California lawsuit from being filed. His denial is his position, not a court determination about the allegations. AP’s account of the denial provides the contemporaneous response.

Before the California complaint became public, Brooks had filed a separate lawsuit in Mississippi using the pseudonym John Doe. Reuters reported that he characterized the dispute in that filing as involving alleged threats and extortion. Those are Brooks’s assertions; Roe’s claims and Brooks’s account are contested positions, not established findings. The materials cited here do not establish the current procedural status of either lawsuit through an official court docket. A secondary legal explainer published in 2026 said the related cases remained effectively frozen as of May 2026, but that account was not corroborated against docket records. It would therefore be inaccurate to state here that the cases are currently pending, dismissed, or resolved.
For a definitive update, consult the relevant court dockets and identify the date and substance of any later filing or order. The 2024 complaint and news reports establish what was alleged and how Brooks responded at that time; they do not settle the claims.
