The Nevada National Guard honored Staff Sgt. Robert Garrison Brown at a memorial gathering at Clark County Armory in Las Vegas on March 24, 2024. Soldiers from his unit, the 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry, joined Brown’s family and friends. Brig. Gen. Troy Armstrong presented a flag to Brown’s mother, according to the Guard’s account.
How the Guard honored Brown
The Nevada National Guard’s account, published March 27, 2024, describes a gathering at Clark County Armory attended by members of Brown’s unit, family, and friends. Armstrong presented a flag to Brown’s mother. Contemporary coverage by Us Weekly also reported a folded-flag presentation and a gun salute.
The Guard identified Brown as a staff sergeant in the Army National Guard and a Cavalry Scout, or CAV Scout, with the 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry. Its memorial account said he “exemplified dedication to his country.”
What the Guard remembered about him
The tribute recalled Brown’s adventurous travels, comedy, photography, and amateur craftsmanship. It also emphasized his humor and his ability to connect with people. Brown pursued nursing, the Guard said, because he wanted to help others.

Why reports give different dates of death
The Nevada National Guard’s March 27 memorial story gives March 4, 2024, as Brown’s date of death. Us Weekly’s report, published March 28, gives March 5. The available accounts do not explain the difference, so the dates are best attributed to their respective sources rather than presented as a single settled date. The Guard’s account does not state a cause of death.
