Garbage joined L7 onstage for “Pretend We’re Dead” at Sacadura 154 in central Rio de Janeiro on March 21, 2025, the first of three joint dates in Brazil. The guest appearance linked the bands through a song and album both produced by Butch Vig.
What happened in Rio de Janeiro
L7 played first at Sacadura 154. In a report published March 22, music journalist Igor Miranda described the set as approximately one hour long, with 16 songs. The report credits attending photographer Paty Sigiliano with providing photographs, video and information about the shows. Read Miranda’s report.
The central shared-stage moment came during “Pretend We’re Dead,” when Garbage joined L7. Miranda names Garbage vocalist Shirley Manson, drummer Butch Vig, guitarist Duke Erikson and touring bassist Nicole Fiorentino among the musicians seen onstage. A user-contributed Setlist.fm record also marks the song as performed “with Garbage.” Miranda’s account and the Setlist.fm entry document the performance from different sources.
What L7 played
Six of the reported 16 songs came from L7’s 1992 album Bricks Are Heavy. Setlist.fm’s album breakdown also attributes three songs apiece to Hungry for Stink and The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum, and lists “Fast and Frightening” as the encore. These are details from a user-contributed setlist record, not official band documentation.

Why “Pretend We’re Dead” connected the bands
Butch Vig produced both “Pretend We’re Dead” and Bricks Are Heavy, according to Miranda’s report. That shared production history gave the onstage appearance a musical connection beyond the guest spot itself. The number of songs from Bricks Are Heavy also made the album a substantial part of L7’s Rio set.
Where the Brazil run went next
The Rio concert began a three-date Brazilian run. L7 and Garbage were scheduled to continue at Terra SP in São Paulo on March 22, then at Ópera de Arame in Curitiba on March 23. Miranda’s report says The Mönic opened in those two cities.

A little background on L7

It identifies Dee Plakas on drums and lists Jennifer Finch among the band’s bassists at different times. That background comes from the band’s official site; it does not independently document the 2025 Rio concert. L7’s official website.
