The female Snake Eyes in IDW’s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic continuity is Dawn Moreno, a character distinct from the original Snake Eyes. Hasbro’s official character description says Dawn was rescued from Cobra as a teenager, trained as a ninja, and given Snake Eyes’ memories through a Brainwave Scanner. The series’ final issue also features a separately revived Snake-Eyes, so Dawn is not simply the original character renamed.
Who is the female Snake Eyes?
She is Dawn Moreno, a young woman introduced in IDW’s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comics. Hasbro describes Dawn as a comic-book character and identifies her as Snake Eyes (Dawn Moreno) in its official announcement for the G.I. Joe Classified Series #197 figure.
Dawn takes on the Snake Eyes identity, but she remains a distinct person. The distinction matters because the story involves inherited memories, not a simple revelation that the original Snake Eyes was a woman.
How did Dawn Moreno become Snake Eyes?
According to Hasbro’s character description, Dawn was rescued as a teenager from a bleak life in Cobra and trained into a ninja master. She inherited Snake Eyes’ memories through a Brainwave Scanner. That description establishes the broad story of her transformation; it does not explain the scanner’s technical operation or give grounds to add further mechanics.

A retailer’s listing for G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #246 places Dawn at the center of a conflict leading to an all-new Snake Eyes. The issue is a possible point of entry for readers interested in her story, though that listing alone does not establish the availability of a collected edition.
What happened to her in the IDW series finale?
IDW announced in September 2022 that issue #300 would be the final issue of its long-running G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero series. The publisher’s announcement named Larry Hama as the issue’s writer.

The Grand Comics Database’s catalog entry and plot summary for issue #300 lists Snake Eyes [Dawn Moreno] among the characters. It also describes a revived Snake-Eyes who was programmed to serve Cobra, then turned back toward G.I. Joe when his memories returned. The summary therefore distinguishes Dawn from that revived character, while placing both in the finale’s story.
The available account does not establish Dawn’s complete fate after the ending. It does not support saying that she dies, retires, or continues as Snake Eyes in later continuities.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Dawn Moreno the female Snake Eyes in every G.I. Joe adaptation?
The evidence here concerns IDW’s A Real American Hero comic continuity. It does not establish Dawn as the female Snake Eyes in every G.I. Joe adaptation, so the answer should not be generalized to films, television, or other comic continuities.
