The old FXNOW connected-TV activation process is no longer a current, general way to watch FX. FX said the FXNOW app stopped being available on mobile devices and connected TVs on September 23, 2024. If an installed app still shows a code, first check whether it is an official, current app; do not assume that entering the code will restore a discontinued service.
What changed with FXNOW?
FX’s September 2024 announcement says the FXNOW app was no longer available on mobile devices or connected TVs beginning September 23, 2024. That announcement changes how to interpret older instructions telling viewers to open FXNOW on a television, get a code, and enter it at an activation page.
FXNOW remains a web-based destination for FX programming, with shows and movies and a live-TV page. The former connected-TV app, the current FXNOW website, and any separate FX-branded or TV-provider app are not necessarily the same product. FX’s announcement does not establish what every legacy installation or store listing does today, so verify the exact app rather than relying on its name.
Is fxnetworks.com/activate legitimate?
FX Networks’ domain is official, but do not treat an old activation URL as proof that a code flow remains supported. Use an activation address only if it is displayed by an app you have verified as official and current, or linked from an official FX page. The historical FXNOW app instructions describe the former provider-authentication process; they are legacy guidance, not confirmation of a current TV-app workflow.

A code generally authenticated an eligible TV-provider account; it did not create an FX subscription or make an ineligible device or account eligible. Avoid lookalike sites, unsolicited remote-support offers, and phone numbers from unofficial activation pages. FX’s support center is the appropriate place to start for FX app or account questions.
Check the app before entering a code
- Identify the device and exact app. Note whether you are using Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, a phone, or a browser, and record the app’s precise name and publisher.
- Check the official store listing. Search the device’s own app store and compare the publisher, description, and update information with FX’s official site or support center. An app installed before September 23, 2024 may be legacy software until confirmed otherwise.
- Verify the code’s destination. If a confirmed current official app still presents a code, use the exact address shown in that app or a link reached from an official FX page. Do not send the code to a different site.
- Authenticate only if the app is supported. Keep the code visible, enter it exactly as displayed, select your TV provider, and sign in with that provider’s credentials. Return to the app and allow it to refresh. If the code expires, request a new one in the app.
What to do on each device
Roku
Search the Roku Streaming Store for an official FX or FXNOW listing, if one appears, then inspect its publisher and current sign-in instructions. Roku explains that some TV-network apps use provider sign-in or an activation code, but that general guidance does not establish that a current FXNOW channel is available; FX’s discontinuation announcement still applies.

- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Do not confuse a Roku device-setup code with a network-app authentication code. Roku account linking happens through Roku’s setup process; TV-provider authentication is separate. See Roku’s guidance on activating a streaming device, cable and satellite content, and signing in to apps. If there is no verified current FX app, use another official supported viewing route rather than a similarly named channel or paid “activation” service.
Fire TV
Do not assume a current FXNOW Fire TV app exists based on an old installation or an activation article. If an app is already installed, verify its publisher and check whether it is a legacy listing. Update or reinstall only through the official Amazon Appstore, and do not enter a code on an unrelated website. Fire TV is a device platform, not a TV-provider subscription; provider-locked programming still requires an eligible account.

Android TV
Android TV is distinct from Android phones and tablets. If an Android TV screen shows an FXNOW code, verify that the TV app is a current official listing before trying to authenticate. Clearing cache, rebooting, or reinstalling can help with a supported app’s technical fault, but cannot bring back a discontinued service.
Apple TV
Check the Apple TV App Store for an official, current FX listing and follow only its own sign-in instructions. Do not infer that an old code-based flow still works. Some Apple and provider ecosystems support Single Sign-On, while app support varies; Roku’s network-app guidance also notes that some apps use SSO and others require separate credentials.

What account do you need?
For provider-locked full episodes or live FX programming in the United States, FX’s Instant Access information says viewers need an account with a participating TV provider. The provider package must include FX, and available packages and terms vary by provider and local market. A participating provider can be a cable, satellite, or eligible live-TV service; traditional cable is not the only possible route.
A TV-provider login is different from a Roku account, Apple ID, Amazon account, or any free site account. A correct username and password may still fail if the selected provider does not participate or the customer’s package lacks FX. Outside the U.S., availability and authentication terms may differ.

What can you watch without provider sign-in?
Do not assume that all FX programming is free, or that every episode requires authentication. The current FXNOW website offers on-demand and live programming, but access can differ by title, episode, distribution agreement, location, and time. Check the specific program for a sign-in prompt or lock indicator; a free clip or unlocked video does not establish access to the full series or live channel.
Troubleshoot a code or sign-in problem
The code is rejected or has expired
- Generate a fresh code inside the app instead of repeatedly submitting an old one.
- Confirm that the app is official and current, then use only its displayed activation address.
- Check that you selected the company that bills you for TV service. An internet provider may use a separate account system, even if it shares a brand with your TV provider.
- Verify your username and password directly with the provider, and temporarily disable any VPN or proxy that could interfere with location or authentication checks.
The provider is missing or the account says “not authorized”
- Confirm that the provider participates in FX authentication and that your package includes FX.
- Check whether the provider supports the particular app and device. A provider login working on the web does not prove that a discontinued TV app is supported.
- Ask the provider about subscription or channel entitlement issues; contact FX for problems with an otherwise supported FX app or account.
The code succeeds, but video remains locked
Authentication can succeed while a particular program remains unavailable under the account. Check the channel entitlement, the title’s lock or sign-in indicator, and whether that episode is included in the service you use. If an obsolete app remains on its code screen after a success message, stale app state, an unsupported legacy app, or a service-side issue may be involved—not necessarily a mistyped code.
The app loops, crashes, or will not refresh
For an app verified as current and supported, close and reopen it, restart the device, install available system and app updates, and reinstall only from the device’s official store. These steps may fix a local fault, but cannot restore a discontinued app. If no current app is available, try FXNOW in a browser or a provider’s official app or service, where FX programming is offered.
Quick Recap
Current ways to find FX programming
- FXNOW website: Browse the current FXNOW site and check the access requirement on the specific title or the live-TV page.
- Your TV provider: Check the provider’s official app or service for FX access included in your package.
- Another official streaming service: Distribution differs by show and season. Verify the specific program with the service rather than assuming one alternative carries all FX shows, live FX, or the complete catalog. Hulu’s official site is hulu.com.
