Two well-documented examples of TikTok creators moving into screen acting are Addison Rae, whose feature debut was Netflix’s He’s All That in 2021, and Chase Hudson, who appeared in the 2021 companion film Downfalls High before taking a leading role in Tubi’s How to Lose a Popularity Contest in 2026. Their paths show different kinds of transitions—but the available credits alone do not establish that either has built a long-running acting career.
What “TikTok to Hollywood” means in these cases
“Hollywood” is shorthand here for U.S. film and streaming work, not a formal industry category. Rae and Hudson are selective examples of TikTok creators who have acted, not a complete list. Their documented projects range from a Netflix teen romantic comedy to a music-album companion film and a Tubi movie.
It is also useful to separate a screen credit from a durable acting career. The sources establish projects, roles and, in Rae’s case, a Netflix partnership announcement. They do not provide a common measure of acting performance or enough evidence to rank the two creators or conclude that either has sustained a long-term screen career.
Addison Rae: from TikTok dancer to a Netflix feature lead
Her route from posting videos to pursuing entertainment work
TikTok’s 2025 feature says Rae began posting on the platform in 2019. It reported more than 88.3 million followers and 5.8 billion likes in the context of that feature; those are historical figures, not current counts.

In an April 2025 interview with ELLE, Rae recalled leaving Louisiana State University, moving to Los Angeles and pursuing available work. She described the decision as an uncertain but urgent leap: “I just had this really strong intuition and gut feeling that, as unrealistic as it seemed, I needed to do it—there’s no time like now to try and chase those dreams.” That is Rae’s account of her own career path, rather than a complete independently verified chronology.
He’s All That and the feature debut
Netflix announced in March 2021 that it had acquired worldwide rights to He’s All That from Miramax. The film updates the 1999 teen movie She’s All That with a gender-flipped premise: Rae plays an influencer who takes on a challenge to transform a classmate into prom king. Mark Waters directed, R. Lee Fleming Jr. wrote the screenplay, and Tanner Buchanan co-stars. Netflix’s August 2021 explainer describes the movie as a contemporary reworking of the earlier film.

The film released globally on Netflix on August 27, 2021. Netflix identified it as Rae’s acting debut in its September 8 announcement. The same announcement said Netflix would develop multiple films for Rae to star in, and that she would executive-produce projects she brought to the company. That was a partnership announcement in 2021; it does not establish that the arrangement remains active.
Netflix also reported that the film reached more than 55 million households in its first four weeks and ranked No. 1 in 78 countries. These are Netflix’s own figures in its September 2021 announcement, not independently audited audience measurements.

Chase Hudson: from a music companion film to a Tubi lead
An earlier screen appearance in Downfalls High
Netflix’s December 2021 Hype House profile says Hudson—also known as Huddy and identified there as a Hype House co-founder—starred in Downfalls High, released in January 2021. The project was a companion film to Machine Gun Kelly’s album Tickets to My Downfall, with Sydney Sweeney also starring. This is an earlier documented screen credit, but it was not a conventional standalone feature-film debut of the kind Netflix identified for Rae.
How to Lose a Popularity Contest and the “debut” question
A January 13, 2026 interview with TV Insider/Swooon reports that Hudson stars alongside Sara Waisglass in How to Lose a Popularity Contest, which was set to stream on Tubi beginning January 16, 2026. Hudson said he had quietly taken acting lessons: “Honestly, I’d been kinda secretly doing lessons for a while.” He also called the opportunity “a great reintroduction to my acting potential.”
The interview calls this movie Hudson’s acting debut, but Netflix had already reported his starring appearance in Downfalls High in 2021. The sources do not explain the difference. It is more precise to call the Tubi movie a new acting chapter or a leading feature role, rather than an unqualified first screen appearance. The reported Tubi start date is not a guarantee of present-day availability in every region.

| Creator | First documented screen work in these sources | Role and format | Distribution and date | Further opportunity documented |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Addison Rae | He’s All That, identified by Netflix as her acting debut | Lead role as an influencer in a gender-flipped teen romantic comedy | Released globally on Netflix on August 27, 2021 | Netflix announced a multi-picture creative partnership in September 2021; current status is not established |
| Chase Hudson (Huddy) | Downfalls High, a companion film to an album | Starred in the music-linked film; later reported in a leading feature role | Downfalls High in January 2021; How to Lose a Popularity Contest was reported to stream on Tubi from January 16, 2026 | The 2026 interview documents the Tubi role and Hudson’s private acting lessons; a continuing career trajectory is not established |
The evidence does not support declaring one creator more successful as an actor. The projects differ in format, genre and distribution, and the sources offer neither comparable audience figures nor a shared assessment of acting work.

What these examples do—and do not—show
Rae’s path is documented as a direct move from viral platform recognition to a Netflix feature lead and a studio partnership announcement. Hudson’s record includes an earlier music companion film and, years later, a reported leading role in a streaming movie, alongside his account of taking lessons privately.
Both cases show that a creator’s existing public identity can connect to screen opportunities. Rae’s character in He’s All That is herself an influencer, making her social-media persona relevant to the premise. But two cases cannot establish how common this path is: the sources reviewed do not give a count of TikTok creators who became actors, nor a consistent measure of what counts as a successful or sustained acting career.
