Mystery and historical fiction
The final two selections are mysteries with sharply different settings: one in contemporary Mumbai’s literary world and one in nineteenth-century Bombay.
The Dying Day — Vaseem Khan
A missing copy of Dante’s The Divine Comedy sets off a mystery investigated by Inspector Persis Wadia. The premise places a literary object at the center of the case.
Murder in Old Bombay — Nev March
This historical mystery is set in Bombay in 1892. Readers looking for a crime story grounded in a historical setting may find it the most direct fit among the list’s mysteries.
