FRINGE WORLD returned to Perth from 21 January to 15 February 2026, backed by $4.19 million in total Cook Government support announced in 2025. The festival has since concluded. A separate $4.3 million commitment announced in 2026 covers three years through 2029–30; it is not a revised figure for the 2026 season.
When was FRINGE WORLD 2026?
The festival ran in Perth from 21 January to 15 February 2026. The City of Perth’s preview described a program spanning 54 City venues and 110 venues across the broader festival, with more than 600 shows and over 3,000 artists. The festival’s post-event account said the 2026 edition also went to Busselton for the first time.
The City preview published ahead of the season forecast more than half a million people would attend. FRINGE WORLD’s later About Us page reports nearly 500,000 attendees. These are different measures at different points in time: a pre-event forecast and a rounded organizer-reported outcome.
How much funding did FRINGE WORLD get?
In August 2025, the Western Australian Government announced $4.19 million in total Cook Government support to deliver the 2026 festival. That total included a $2.5 million Lotterywest grant to ARTRAGE. The Government also said Lotterywest grants to ARTRAGE had exceeded $17 million cumulatively since 1994. The Government’s announcement quotes Premier Roger Cook describing the festival as “a cornerstone of Western Australia’s arts scene and part of the fabric of Perth’s summer.”

A separate announcement in April 2026 committed $4.3 million across three years through 2029–30. It is a multiyear commitment for future festival years, not the funding total for the 2026 event. The later Government announcement quotes Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk saying FRINGE WORLD occupies “a special place in the WA creative industries events calendar.”

Lotterywest’s October 2025 account said the grant was intended to support new experiences, attendance programs for disadvantaged groups, more free performances and low-cost activities at the Pleasure Garden. How many shows and events were there?
The published counts use different terms and come from different sources. The City of Perth’s pre-season preview said there would be more than 600 shows. FRINGE WORLD’s About Us page reports 599 events, while its February 2026 post-event article says 607 shows. The sources do not explain the variation, so these figures should be read with their source and wording rather than treated as one reconciled total.

The organizer’s About Us page also reports more than 3,000 artists and nearly 500,000 attendees across 599 events. It says more than $10.9 million was spent at the box office, of which $8.34 million was paid to FRINGE WORLD artists and venues. Who produces FRINGE WORLD, and what is the festival?
FRINGE WORLD is presented by ARTRAGE and uses an open-access format. Its program spans comedy, cabaret, theatre, music, children’s events and circus. That breadth helps explain why published counts may refer to shows or events rather than a single, consistently defined measure.
In the City of Perth preview, Deputy Lord Mayor David Goncalves said, “For a few weeks each year, FRINGE WORLD transforms the heart of Perth into a giant stage for the entire community.” ARTRAGE CEO and Creative Director Jo Thomas described the 2026 edition as “when Perth really lets its hair down.” These are attributed remarks from the preview, not independent measures of the festival’s impact. Finding season-specific visitor information
The festival’s official FAQ lists its website, app and box office as ticket channels. It describes the app as offering show discovery, scheduling, recommendations, e-ticketing and maps. The City preview’s $35 average ticket price was a pre-season figure, not a universal or current price.
The FAQ also states that customer-paid transaction fees for the 2026 season were $2.40 for a single ticket or item and $4.80 for transactions with two or more items. Its terms say tickets are not refunded for change of mind or refusal of entry, while a cancelled show receives a refund under the purchase terms.
