The original Friday the 13th was filmed mainly at Camp NoBeBoSco near Blairstown, New Jersey, with the real Sand Pond standing in for Crystal Lake. Later films used other locations, including Connecticut, California, Georgia and British Columbia. This guide identifies the production sites the available records support—and distinguishes them from the films’ fictional geography. It is not a verified location list for every entry in the franchise.

Where was the original Friday the 13th filmed?

The 1980 film’s principal camp location was Camp NoBeBoSco, a working Boy Scouts camp near Blairstown, New Jersey. The real body of water used as Crystal Lake is Sand Pond. The film-location archive identifies recognizable camp features including the Van Dusen cabin, camp sign, archery range, watchtower and dock. The archive’s location guide documents these sites and other nearby filming spots.

Filming also took place around Blairstown and nearby Hope. The locations identified include the Blairstown bridge and downtown, the Old Mill archways, the exterior at 26 Main Street, interiors at Hartung’s store in Hope, the Moravian Cemetery area, Millbrook Road in Hardwick Township and the Blairstown Diner. The exterior and interior of the shop seen in the film were filmed at separate locations, according to Visit New Jersey’s route guide.

Can you visit Camp NoBeBoSco?

Camp NoBeBoSco is an operating camp, not an unrestricted film attraction. Its location page asks visitors to obtain permission before arriving. Visit New Jersey describes a tour option, but access and dates can change; check directly with the site or tour organizer before making plans. Treat private properties and active facilities respectfully, and do not enter without permission.

Where was Friday the 13th Part 2 filmed?

The 1981 sequel filmed in Connecticut’s Litchfield County, particularly around New Preston and Kent, according to the film-location archive. New Preston locations included a downtown payphone scene, a former gas-station storefront and the site of a casino building that burned down; that site is now private residential property.

Laurel Lodge served as the main counselor building, with a smaller office cabin and a cottage also used. Laurel Lodge is private property. The archive reports that its owners attempted to sell the property in early 2026, but its current status is unknown: the available account does not establish whether it was sold or whether the building remains. The documented filming history should not be taken as confirmation of present-day access or of the structure’s continued existence.

Where was Friday the 13th Part 3 filmed?

The 1982 film used a ranch in Newhall, California, identified on the location archive as the Valuzet Movie Ranch and also referred to there as the Veluzat Ranch or Melody Ranch. Its lodge or cabin, small pond and barn supplied prominent settings; the pond stood in for Crystal Lake. The site has changed since filming, including changes to the porch and fence, and the archive shows the structures as of 2026. The ranch should not be assumed to be a public attraction.

What locations are documented for the other films?

For several franchise entries, the available sources establish production geography but not a complete list of individual filming sites. The distinction matters: a film’s title or fictional setting does not prove where it was shot.

Film What the available source establishes
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984) AFI’s catalog identifies Los Angeles, California, as the production geography and says principal photography was scheduled to begin in late October 1983 for six weeks. This is not a scene-by-scene location list, so it does not establish a particular house or ranch address. AFI Catalog.
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) A complete, sufficiently authoritative location list is not established. A franchise-site discussion mentions Camarillo, California, but is a request for fan photographs, not confirmation of all filming sites. Film-location archive.
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986) AFI reports filming around Covington and Rutledge, Georgia, including Hard Labor Creek State Park and surrounding areas. It says principal photography began March 10, 1986, and describes an eight-week schedule. AFI attributes its account to contemporary trade reports and production notes; its catalog also notes that the Georgia Film Commission and the town of Covington are acknowledged in the end credits. AFI Catalog.
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) A reliable film-specific location list is not established by the available sources. Film-location archive.
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) A reliable film-specific location list is not established. The title alone does not establish that the film was shot in Manhattan. Film-location archive.
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) and Jason X (2001) Complete, reliable location lists are not established by the available sources. AFI Catalog.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003) Production took place in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, and on movie-lot sets. Buntzen Lake provided the backdrop for the final island-shack scenes; the island can still be seen, but the set has been removed, according to the film-location archive.
Friday the 13th (2009) The available sources do not establish the remake’s production locations. Its connection to the original story does not verify where it was filmed. AFI Catalog.

Is Camp Crystal Lake a real place?

Crystal Lake is the fictional name used in the films; for the original movie, the real lake was Sand Pond at Camp NoBeBoSco in New Jersey. Other entries used different filming locations, and the Newhall ranch pond in Part 3 also portrayed Crystal Lake. The name therefore refers to a story location, not one filming site shared by the franchise.

Planning a visit to original-film locations

Visit New Jersey promotes a route through Blairstown and Hope, but the stops do not all have the same access rules. Some are public-facing landmarks; others are an operating camp, residences or private property. Confirm tour availability and site rules before traveling, and view private locations only from places where visitors are permitted.
