You can add a New Year overlay to an OBS scene by placing its browser URL in an OBS Browser source, or by importing a downloaded graphic into the scene. First confirm that the specific design is free and that its license permits your intended use: a provider’s free-assets gallery does not establish that a particular New Year design is available at no cost.
Where to find a free New Year stream overlay
Start with an overlay gallery or asset library and check the exact design’s price and usage terms before downloading or adding it. StreamElements documents a gallery of ready-to-go assets, while OWN3D says it offers some free assets. Neither statement confirms that a specific New Year-themed overlay is free today. See the StreamElements gallery guide and OWN3D overlay information.
Compare candidates on the details that affect your broadcast:
- Current cost: Confirm that the particular design is free, not merely that the site has a free-assets section.
- License: Check whether the terms allow your kind of broadcast, including commercial use if relevant, and whether they restrict editing or redistribution.
- Format and delivery: A browser URL can be added as an OBS Browser source; a downloaded image or animation needs to be added as a local source.
- Presentation and dimensions: Check whether it is static or animated and whether its canvas fits your stream. StreamElements supports static and animated overlays; its editor guidance recommends matching the stream resolution or using a smaller design when you want to reposition it in broadcasting software (overlay overview; sizing guidance).
Stream overlays are visual elements layered over a broadcast. Depending on the design, they can include alerts, labels, goals, or chat, and may be rendered in streaming software through a browser source. The StreamElements overlay documentation describes this approach.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Get the overlay URL from StreamElements
- Open the StreamElements overlay gallery and choose CREATE. You can name the asset if you wish, then select GO TO MY OVERLAYS to open the overlay manager. The gallery guide describes this flow.
- Open the overlay in the dashboard or editor and copy its overlay URL. StreamElements documents copying the URL from either location in its OBS setup guide.
- Before using a seasonal design, verify its current cost and license on the asset’s own page. The gallery workflow does not itself establish that a particular New Year overlay is free or cleared for your intended use.
Add the overlay to an OBS scene
- Open OBS and select the scene where the overlay should appear.
- In the Sources panel, add a Browser source and create a new source.
- Paste the copied overlay URL into the source’s URL field.
- Set the source’s width and height to fit the design and your stream canvas. StreamElements recommends matching the stream resolution; a smaller overlay can be useful if you plan to reposition it in broadcasting software. See its editor setup and sizing guidance.
- Preview the scene. Check that the graphic is visible, correctly positioned, and not covering essential content such as captions or the main subject.
StreamElements’ setup guide, updated May 7, 2024, documents the URL-and-Browser-source workflow. It does not specify an OBS version number.
If you have a downloaded overlay instead
A downloaded file is not a browser URL. Add it to the scene using the OBS source type appropriate to the file, such as an image source for a still graphic, then position and size it in the preview. For an animated or otherwise packaged asset, follow the provider’s instructions for that specific format. Check that the provider’s license permits your intended use before broadcasting.

Fix common overlay problems
- The browser source is blank: Recheck that you copied the complete overlay URL from the dashboard or editor and pasted it into the Browser source’s URL field. Confirm that the source is in the selected scene.
- The overlay is cropped, too large, or misplaced: Adjust the Browser source dimensions to the stream canvas, then reposition it in OBS. StreamElements recommends matching the stream resolution, with a smaller canvas as an option when repositioning (sizing guidance).
- A saved edit is not visible: If you are using an OWN3D overlay, its help documentation says to refresh the OBS browser source after embedding the overlay and saving changes. See OWN3D’s setup guide.
- You are unsure whether you can use the design: Return to the specific asset’s license and terms. The fact that a design is labeled free does not by itself establish permission for commercial broadcasting or redistribution.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping a YouTube live stream running from uploaded videos; it does not add a New Year overlay to an OBS scene or stream from a camera. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and includes a first day free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
