The free plans identified impose monthly-hour or per-stream limits, exclude playlists, or do not make their continuous-streaming terms clear. If the stream must stay live with your computer off, compare a paid cloud playout service with running the stream yourself; “free plan” does not necessarily mean unlimited or cost-free operation.
What “free” needs to mean for an always-on rain stream
A rain stream that must remain live around the clock has three separate requirements: enough runtime, the ability to loop prerecorded video or audio, and a playout system that stays online. A plan can be free to subscribe to yet fail the first two requirements; a cloud compute credit can cover some infrastructure without establishing that continuous video delivery is free.
- Runtime: Check whether the limit applies to each stream, each day, or the whole month. A provider’s use of “continuous” does not by itself establish uninterrupted 24/7 use.
- Looping: Confirm that the plan supports playlists or repeating prerecorded media, not just a live encoder feed.
- Where it runs: Cloud playout can continue while your computer is off. Self-hosting means the computer or server doing the encoding must remain operational.
- Total cost: Check storage, compute, outbound delivery, and what happens when an allowance runs out. A zero subscription price does not establish zero operating cost.
Free services: what the published terms establish
These are provider-stated plan details, not an independent test. Terms can change, so check the linked plan page before setting up a channel. The services below are not ranked as free 24/7 solutions: the available terms do not establish that any of them provides indefinitely free, uninterrupted cloud playout for a rain loop.
| Service | Free-plan detail | What it means for a 24/7 rain loop |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Paid cloud playout service; first day free, with no card required. | StreamNeo is the #1 option to try if the requirement is an always-on YouTube stream: it runs from the cloud, supports uploaded videos and playlists at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
| OneStream Live | Its Help Center says the free plan is available indefinitely, but prerecorded streams are limited to 15 minutes per stream and real-time streams to one hour. Free users cannot stream playlists; the page also lists two simultaneous destinations and a maximum resolution of 720p. OneStream Live Help Center (updated 2026-08-24). | The per-stream limits and lack of playlist streaming make the documented free plan unsuitable for unattended, continuously looping rain content. |
| Upstream | Its 24/7 playout page advertises 24 streaming hours per month on the free plan. A separate free live-streaming page says streams can go to up to 10 destinations and that an always-on channel requires a paid plan starting at $30 monthly. 24/7 playout page and free live-streaming page. | The stated monthly allowance is not a free 24/7 service. Upstream describes its always-on channel as paid; confirm current terms and how the pages’ offers apply to your account. |
| Livepush | Its Help Center lists 20 streaming hours per month on the free plan, up to 10 platforms at once, and also mentions continuous streaming. Livepush Help Center. | The available plan description does not explain whether “continuous” is limited by the 20-hour monthly allowance. Ask Livepush to clarify before relying on it for a 24/7 loop. |
| AWS Free Tier | AWS describes up to $200 in credits over six months for new customers, access to selected services on its free plan, and more than 30 always-free services subject to monthly limits. AWS Free Tier. | Credits and limited service allowances do not establish that a continuously running encoder, storage, and video delivery will cost nothing. The total depends on the architecture and usage. |
| Playout.video | Its homepage advertises a cloud 24/7 channel and a free plan. Playout.video. | The available plan description does not show the free plan’s runtime allowance or restrictions, so its suitability for uninterrupted streaming is unconfirmed. |
Choose an approach based on how long the stream must run
If a capped test stream is enough
A free plan can be useful for learning the workflow or running a short broadcast. Match the provider’s stated session and monthly limits to the stream you intend to run. For prerecorded rain video, verify playlist or looping support as well: a time allowance does not help if the free tier cannot repeat the media.

If the channel must stay live all day, every day
Do not treat a monthly allowance as an always-on plan. Ask the provider whether an uninterrupted prerecorded stream is permitted, whether loops or playlists are included, whether the plan remains free after any trial or credits, and what charges or interruptions occur at the cap. The provider terms above do not confirm an indefinitely free cloud option for this use case.
If you want to avoid a cloud subscription
You can run playout from a computer you already own using streaming software such as OBS, or from hardware or a VPS you operate. This avoids relying on a cloud-planning free tier, but it transfers responsibility for keeping the equipment, encoder, and connection working to you. The available provider comparison does not quantify electricity, internet usage, maintenance, uptime, or the cost of a suitable machine or server, so self-hosting should not be described as free overall.

Before you publish a continuous rain stream
- Check YouTube’s current rules: Confirm the current requirements for long-duration livestreams and prerecorded content with YouTube before going live. The provider information cited here does not settle YouTube policy or monetization eligibility.
- Clear the rights: Make sure you have permission to use every video, image, and sound in the stream, including ambient audio. A recording that sounds like ordinary rain can still contain material you do not have rights to rebroadcast.
- Plan for limits and interruptions: Know what happens when a free allowance ends and how you will respond if the stream stops. Do not rely on an ambiguous “continuous” label as proof of unlimited runtime.
Or let it run in the cloud
