In a statement quoted by BET on July 20, 2021, a network spokesperson said viewers first met Lons on Keyshia Cole: All In and also saw her on Keyshia Cole: My New Life and Frankie & Neffe. The spokesperson described Lons as a resilient mother and friend and offered condolences to Cole, her sister Neffe, and the family.
How did Frankie & Neffe fit into BET’s reality-TV lineup?
Frankie & Neffe was presented as a spin-off of Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, the original series. In a May 19, 2009 announcement, Paramount said the new BET program would focus on Lons and Cole’s sister, Neffe Pugh, and announced an August 25, 2009 premiere.

When did Frankie Lons die, and how old was she?
BET reported that Lons passed away on July 18, 2021, her 61st birthday. TheWrap’s initial July 19 report used conflicting age language—a headline said 61 while the article body said 60—so BET’s clearer account of the date and birthday is the basis for the age reported here.

What did BET report about the cause of death?
In an October 4, 2021 report, BET said the Alameda County Coroner’s Office had provided a cause of death. BET attributed the specific autopsy finding—that Lons died from multiple drug intoxication and that the death was classified as an accidental overdose—to TMZ’s reporting.
BET also reported that Lons had struggled with addiction for years and entered a rehabilitation facility in February 2020. That history is separate context, not a substitute for the reported cause-of-death finding.
