Qué provocó las críticas
La nota de People en Español, firmada por Lena Hansen y actualizada el 18 de septiembre de 2024, vinculó la controversia con una conversación de Francisca y Jomari Goyso en Soy Francisca. Según el medio, hablaron de estereotipos de belleza, discriminación racial y de cómo la imagen física puede abrir o cerrar puertas. People en Español identificó entonces a Francisca como copresentadora de Despierta América, de Univision.
El cabello natural formó parte de ese contexto: Francisca habló de haber decidido llevarlo natural, en lugar de usar extensiones para tenerlo largo y lacio. La nota no presenta esa decisión como una recomendación de belleza ni como el único motivo de las críticas; la sitúa dentro de una conversación más amplia sobre apariencia y discriminación.
Qué dijo Francisca al defenderse
En un video publicado en Instagram, según la nota, Francisca dijo que esperaba que la conversación generara controversia, pero que también podía abrir un diálogo necesario. Aclaró que hablar de algo difícil y expresar emociones no equivalía a victimizarse. People en Español reprodujo su petición: «Dejemos de lanzar tanto odio, tanta negatividad, de atacarnos».

También explicó que había temido que sus hijos pudieran vivir experiencias de discriminación parecidas a las suyas. La nota presenta ese comentario como una preocupación por lo que ellos podrían enfrentar, no como rechazo a sus hijos ni como una declaración de inseguridad.
Por qué dijo que era necesario hablar de discriminación
Francisca defendió la importancia de reconocer el problema en vez de fingir que no existe. People en Español le atribuyó estas palabras: «La discriminación es un tema que existe en el mundo y si uno no ve el problema y si uno se hace el loco, las cosas nunca van a cambiar».

Se trata de una controversia de septiembre de 2024, no de una declaración nueva. People en Español informó entonces que Francisca compartió el video con sus más de 4 millones de seguidores en Instagram; esa cifra corresponde a lo publicado en ese momento y no establece cuántos seguidores tiene actualmente.
