What was known about the cause?
In its initial reporting, the Associated Press described fog, runway-light problems and a broken weather alert system, citing the National Transportation Safety Board’s account at that stage of the investigation. The report said investigators had not determined the cause. Those conditions were investigative context, not a final finding that any one of them caused the crash.
The Associated Press and The Independent reports cited here do not establish whether investigators later issued a final report or probable-cause determination. They support the identities of the victims and the early account of the crash, but not a definitive explanation for why it happened.
