Game Developer reported on January 6, 2021, that Kelly Flock, a former president and CEO of Sony Online Entertainment, had died. Its obituary also described his senior roles at LucasArts and THQ and relayed a tribute from game designer David Jaffe. The report did not state Flock’s age, exact date of death, or cause.
Who was Kelly Flock?
Flock was a video-game industry executive whose career included leadership positions at three major publishers and studios. Game Developer’s obituary described him as having spent decades in the industry.

Game Developer quoted Twisted Metal designer David Jaffe, who credited Flock with backing game creators and projects. Jaffe said Flock “pulled the trigger creating Sony Santa Monica” and greenlit Twisted Metal 2, Twisted Metal: Black, and Jet Moto. He also wrote that Flock gave developers opportunities to learn from setbacks, adding: “There’s no Twisted Metal: Black or God of War without Kelly Flock.”
