Food & Wine named 10 chefs to its 2025 Best New Chefs class, representing restaurants in nine U.S. cities. The roster is a historical class, not the current one: Food & Wine’s 2026 class was announced in September 2026. Here are the 2025 honorees, where they cooked when the list was announced, and what the magazine said connected their work.
Who were Food & Wine’s 2025 Best New Chefs?
The magazine announced its 37th class on September 9, 2025. These are the chef–restaurant pairings in the announcement:

What did the magazine say defined the 2025 class?
Food & Wine described the honorees’ cooking as shaped by personal history, memory, culture, and experience. Examples cited in the announcement included khao soi with Philly-Italian crab gravy, raspberry-chile conchas, handcrafted Korean tofu, and kaya jam pastries. That is the magazine’s characterization of its class, not an independent assessment of a broader dining trend.

Hunter Lewis, Food & Wine’s editor in chief, said the chefs were “cooking from memory, culture, and experience” and, in doing so, “redefining what American cuisine looks and tastes like today.”
How does Food & Wine select Best New Chefs?
Food & Wine says eligible chefs must have been in charge of a kitchen or pastry program for five years or less. According to its published account, the process starts with solicited nominations vetted from alumni, food writers, cookbook authors, and other trusted experts. Scouts then dine around the country, visiting hundreds of restaurants to identify promising chefs.
