The Foo Fighters ended their July 17, 2024, concert at Citi Field in Queens early after lightning continued in the area. The band said there was no safe way to continue, putting the safety of fans, crew and stadium workers first.
Why did Foo Fighters stop the Citi Field show?
The concert was part of the band’s Everything or Nothing at All tour. Thunderstorms moved through the New York area, and Citi Field said the show had concluded because lightning remained in the area. The venue’s announcement, reproduced by Audacy, read: “Unfortunately due to the continued presence of lightning in the area, tonight’s show has concluded. Please exit the venue and have a safe night.”
The Foo Fighters said they were disappointed not to play the full set, but that the safety of fans, crew and everyone working in the stadium came first. The band’s statement, also reproduced by Audacy, concluded: “when it was determined that there was no safe way to continue the show in this dangerous weather, we had no choice but to call it a night.”
How much of the concert did they play?
A contemporaneous attendee account in Main Street Magazine reports that the band played 13 songs before stopping. The account also says Citi Field posted its announcement at 10:30 p.m. These details come from the attendee account; an official archived setlist or venue post was not available in the cited coverage.

What is known about the weather and the decision?
Coverage by Rolling Stone Australia and Audacy corroborates that continued lightning in the area was the venue’s stated reason for ending the show, and that the band cited safety. The available reports do not establish storm measurements, how far away lightning was, the precise pause or evacuation timeline, or the operational threshold Citi Field used. They also do not establish that a particular weather warning dictated the decision.
