The Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum reopened in Everett, Washington, on May 27, 2023, after its pandemic-era closure. The collection had been sold by Paul Allen’s estate to Steuart Walton’s Wartime History Museum in 2022. The museum’s website currently lists public hours Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and says general admission is free after visitors complete a waiver.
Why the museum reopened under new ownership
GeekWire reported on August 4, 2022, that Paul Allen’s estate had sold the museum collection to Steuart Walton’s Wartime History Museum. The ownership change preceded the museum’s return to public visits.
In an April 17, 2023 report, GeekWire said the museum would reopen May 27, 2023, with opening-weekend events scheduled for May 27–28. That date is now historical: the museum reopened in 2023, not on a future date. GeekWire’s 2022 report on the sale and its 2023 reopening report document the chronology.
What visitors can see
The museum presents historic military aircraft, vehicles and artifacts associated with 20th-century conflicts. Its stated purpose is to educate visitors about that history. Executive director Adrian Hunt said in GeekWire’s April 17, 2023 report, “Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare for visitors and to share one of the most amazing collections of wartime history in the world.” That is Hunt’s description of the collection, not an independently established ranking.
