Dong Nguyen, creator of the original Flappy Bird, said on September 15, 2024, that he had no relationship with the revived game, had not sold anything, and did not support crypto. The Flappy Bird Foundation announced the revival and said it had acquired rights from Gametech Holdings; Nguyen did not endorse or develop the project. The game’s current availability signals are mixed: Google Play lists it as live, while the Foundation’s website still says “Coming Soon.”
Did the original creator make or sell the new Flappy Bird?
No. In a post on September 15, 2024, Nguyen wrote: “I also don’t support crypto.” TechCrunch reported that his fuller statement said he had no relationship with the revival and had not sold anything. TechCrunch reported Nguyen’s response as the Foundation announced the project.
The Foundation said it had acquired rights from Gametech Holdings. That is the Foundation’s account of the rights behind the revival, not evidence that Nguyen sold the original game or participated in the new project. TechCrunch’s report covered both the announcement and Nguyen’s denial.
Why did crypto enter the story?
TechCrunch reported that a researcher found hidden copy on the Foundation’s website referring to Solana and Web3. The report said it was unclear whether the text described planned features or abandoned plans. The Foundation’s public-relations materials at the time did not mention crypto. Nguyen’s opposition to crypto is clear from his post, but the available reporting does not establish a specific token or confirm that crypto features were included in the released game. TechCrunch’s account of the website copy and its uncertainty provides the context.

See the Google Play listing.
The Foundation’s website, by contrast, continues to display “Coming Soon” and describe releases as upcoming. These sources do not establish universal availability or confirm a current iOS release. The Foundation website and Google Play currently present different availability signals.
