XSplit’s documented instructions describe changing the file for each source; they do not describe a bulk relink tool. If a correctly relinked source appears black rather than offline, use the separate playback troubleshooting steps below.
Relink an offline media source on the new PC
- Make the media files available. Copy the original image, video, and audio files to the destination PC, or connect storage that contains them. Keeping recognizable filenames and a stable folder structure can make it easier to identify the right files. XSplit’s instructions add media by browsing to a file on the computer. XSplit’s Image, Video, and Audio Source guide lists examples such as PNG, JPG, GIF, WEBP, TIFF, MP4, FLV, WEBM, and MP3; it does not promise identical playback for every format on every computer.
- Open the presentation in XSplit Broadcaster and find a source marked offline.
- Open that source’s properties. Right-click the affected source and open its properties. In Media Source, select the corresponding file on the new PC. XSplit documents this control as the way to change the media file linked to a source.
- Check the source in the scene. Confirm it displays as expected, then repeat the process for each offline source. The available instructions do not establish a bulk relink feature.
A portable external SSD can be a convenient way to carry a group of media assets between computers, but it is optional. It will not relink XSplit sources automatically; you still need to select the appropriate file in each source’s properties.
Check whether the presentation included the media files
XSplit’s Presentation Switcher documentation describes importing and exporting presentations and labels the feature as available only in the Public Beta release. It does not state that external media files used by sources are packaged inside an exported presentation. Treat moving the presentation and moving its media files as separate tasks unless the documentation for your installed version says otherwise.
XSplit’s infrastructure FAQ says scenes, sources, and settings stay on the user’s device during its infrastructure transition. That describes persistence on a device, not automatic copying of source media to another PC. The same FAQ includes legacy-version guidance for licenses created before September 3, 2025, so check the current infrastructure FAQ and your account situation before acting on version advice.

If the source is linked but displays black
A black source is a different symptom from an offline source. First confirm that the selected file is the intended one and that it plays on the destination PC. Then try the playback and display recommendations in XSplit’s article on fixing sources that only display black:
- Change Advanced video processing mode to Prefer GPU.
- If the setting is available, disable Use Media Foundation Engine for video playback.
These are troubleshooting steps for playback or display problems; they do not replace relinking a missing file. XSplit’s December 2024 release notes for Broadcaster 4.5.2412.0304 list fixes for certain media playback issues, including a GPU-mode failure with specific media files. That historical note does not establish that a particular current version includes a migration fix. See the December 2024 release notes for the release-specific details.

What is not established about media migration
- XSplit’s inspected instructions do not specify whether source paths are stored as absolute paths, relative paths, or another format.
- The Presentation Switcher documentation does not confirm that exported presentations bundle external media files.
- The documentation does not establish a mass-relink workflow or guarantee that every listed file format will play identically across computers.
