Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallParamount+ supports both PS4 and PS5. Most playback failures are resolved without resetting the console: check live service status, force-close the app, restart the PlayStation and network equipment, test the connection, update software, and reinstall Paramount+ if necessary. Do not factory-reset a console when only this app is failing.
Start with a 60-second outage check
- Check the Paramount+ status page.
- Check the PlayStation Network status page for alerts affecting apps or network features.
- Try Paramount+ on a phone, browser, smart TV, or another supported device.
- Open another streaming app on the same PlayStation.
If Paramount+ fails across several devices, or the status page reports an incident, stop changing console settings and wait for service restoration. If other apps work and Paramount+ works elsewhere, continue with the local PlayStation fixes below.
Match the symptom to the likely cause
| Symptom | Investigate first |
|---|---|
| App will not open | Service status, software updates, corrupted installation |
| Logo or loading screen never ends | Network, outage, app data, authentication |
| Video freezes while audio continues | Wi-Fi instability, congestion, temporary stream failure |
| App crashes to the home screen | App installation, system software, cache or database |
| Black screen | Playback/authentication, service delivery, or a wider display/HDCP problem |
| Buffering every few seconds | Packet loss, interference, router or ISP congestion |
| Only one episode fails | Title-specific or regional availability issue |
| Every streaming app fails | PlayStation, router, ISP, DNS, or console problem |
Quick fixes: close the app and restart everything
Force-close Paramount+
- Leave Paramount+ open.
- Press and hold the PS button to open the Quick Menu.
- Select Close Application.
- Launch Paramount+ again.
Returning to the home screen is not always a full termination. Paramount+ documents the Close Application procedure in its PlayStation troubleshooting guidance.
Restart the console completely
- PS5: Press the PS button, select the power icon, then choose Power > Restart PS5.
- PS4: Press the PS button, open the power options, and choose Restart PS4.
Rest Mode is not the same as a full restart. If the console is frozen, hold its physical power button until it shuts down, wait briefly, and start it again. Do not repeatedly unplug a console while it is writing data.

Restart the modem and router
- Close Paramount+.
- Turn off or unplug the modem and router.
- Wait about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the modem and wait for service to return.
- Reconnect or restart the router, then restart the PlayStation.
This is most useful when other devices buffer, the PlayStation network test fails, Wi-Fi is weak, or downloads and calls are competing for capacity. Paramount+ also recommends a modem/router restart in its streaming troubleshooting instructions.
Test and isolate the network
- PS5: Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- PS4: Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
A passed test does not rule out packet loss, high latency, interference, intermittent dropouts, router congestion, or ISP routing problems. PlayStation’s streaming-app guidance is available here.
- Try Ethernet temporarily; it is the clearest stability test.
- Move the console closer to the router or try the other available Wi-Fi band.
- Pause large downloads, cloud sync, and other high-bandwidth activity.
- Test Paramount+ on another device using the same home network.
- Test the PlayStation on a phone hotspot only briefly to identify whether the home network is involved. A hotspot is not a guaranteed permanent solution.
Do not treat a single speed-test result as proof that streaming is healthy, and do not apply the PlayStation Remote Play or cloud-streaming figures of 5 Mbps or 15 Mbps as Paramount+ requirements.

Update Paramount+ and PlayStation software
Update the app
- Highlight Paramount+ on the home screen.
- Press the Options button.
- Select Check for Update.
- Install the update and reopen the app.
Update the console
- PS5: Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- PS4: Settings > System Software Update.
Labels can vary slightly by system-software release and language. Paramount+ and PlayStation both recommend current app and system software; PlayStation’s update guidance is at this page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDelete and reinstall Paramount+
Reinstall when the app crashes at launch, remains on its loading screen after restarts, or other apps work normally.
- Highlight Paramount+ and press Options.
- Choose Delete or Remove, then confirm.
- Download it again from the PlayStation Store or the console’s media/app area.
- Sign in and test more than one title.
Reinstalling normally removes the local app installation, not your Paramount+ account. It cannot repair an outage, expired subscription, ISP fault, unsupported region, or defective console storage. PlayStation lists delete-and-download-again as a streaming-app remedy.

Restore PlayStation licenses
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
Try this when access appears missing, you changed accounts or subscriptions, or PlayStation reports a license/content error. It refreshes local PlayStation access records; it does not renew a Paramount+ plan or repair a Paramount+ account. See PlayStation’s streaming-app troubleshooting page.
Use Safe Mode only after the simpler fixes
PS5: clear cache, then rebuild the database
- Turn the PS5 off completely.
- Hold the physical power button and release it after the second beep.
- Connect the controller with USB and press PS.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database.
- Start with Clear System Software Cache. If necessary, return to Safe Mode and choose Rebuild Database.
PS4: rebuild the database
- Turn the PS4 off completely.
- Hold the power button until the second beep, then release it.
- Connect the controller by USB and press PS.
- Select Rebuild Database.
These maintenance operations are different from a factory reset. Do not interrupt them. PlayStation describes the options and warnings in its PS5 support documentation. Never choose Reset PS5, Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software), or Initialize PS4 as a routine Paramount+ fix.
Check account, billing, region, and title-specific issues
- Sign out of Paramount+, restart the console, and sign in again.
- Confirm the subscription is active on the Paramount+ account page. Plan changes are handled on the Paramount+ website, not directly on the console.
- Verify that the correct account and profile are being used and that the service is supported in the current country or region.
- Temporarily disable a VPN, proxy, or unusual DNS configuration.
- Try another title and profile. If one episode alone fails, test it on the web or another device and record its title, episode, and timestamp.
A black screen does not automatically mean the HDMI cable or HDCP setting is at fault. Investigate display settings only when other apps also show black, the console display is affected outside Paramount+, or the problem began after changing a TV, receiver, capture card, or HDMI setup.

When the PlayStation itself may be failing
If games and several apps crash, storage errors appear, the console overheats, or system software fails to update, the issue is broader than Paramount+. Back up important data and contact official PlayStation Support. A Paramount+-only failure is a reason to reinstall the app, not replace or initialize the console.
PlayStation distinguishes non-destructive default restoration from destructive reset and initialization. A reset or PS4 initialization deletes user and game data; review PlayStation’s reset guidance before considering either option.
What to send Paramount+ support
Use an official Paramount+ support channel and provide:
- Console model (PS4, PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro, PS5, or PS5 Digital/Disc Edition).
- PlayStation system-software version and Paramount+ app version, if visible.
- Exact error text or code, whether failure occurs at launch or during playback, and whether all titles are affected.
- Date and time of the failure, plus the steps that reproduce it.
- Whether other streaming apps work and whether Paramount+ works on another device or network.
Paramount+ may request the console’s network details. On the PlayStation, open Settings > Network > View Connection Status to find the IP address and MAC address. Send those only through official private support channels; never post them publicly.
Quick Recap
Fast decision tree
- If Paramount+ fails everywhere, suspect an outage, account, billing, or regional issue.
- If every PlayStation streaming app fails, investigate the console, router, ISP, or PlayStation Network.
- If Paramount+ works on another network, focus on home Wi-Fi, router, DNS, or ISP behavior.
- If reinstalling fixes the problem, the local installation was likely damaged.
- If multiple apps and games also crash, escalate as a console storage, heat, system-software, or hardware problem.
