News reports have described two Nigerian family posts featuring five generations of women: a 2022 photograph and a separate 2023 TikTok video. They are distinct accounts, not confirmed as the same family. Together, they show how a family portrait or short video can make a maternal lineage visible across generations.
The five-generation family photograph
In an August 11, 2022 report, Legit.ng described a photograph of a Nigerian maternal line spanning a daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. The outlet said the women wore specially made tie-and-dye clothing and attributed the names Arike, Aduke, Anike, Abeke and Abike to text shared with the image. A separate five-generation TikTok video
A different Legit.ng report, published February 24, 2023, covered a video posted by TikTok account @fadadozie. The report identifies an infant named Adesua, her mother Alice, grandmother Immaculata, great-grandmother Agatha and an unnamed eldest matriarch. It says the women appeared in sequence and danced. How the generations challenge works
Five-generation videos are also part of a broader social-media format. The Indian Express described a call-and-response sequence: one person calls a relative from the previous generation into view, and that relative calls the next. Its report connected the format to videos circulating on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. Why a portrait or short video resonates
Seeing five generations together turns a family relationship into something immediately legible: viewers can follow a maternal line from the youngest person to the oldest. A still image preserves one shared moment; a short video can add movement and reveal each person in turn. These reports document individual examples, not how common five-generation families are.
Making your own family image
For a posed photograph
- Arrange everyone so faces are visible, and identify each generation clearly in the caption.
- Let the oldest relative choose whether to sit or stand; frame the group around that preference.
- Use a stable camera position. A phone tripod with a remote is an optional hands-free aid, not equipment documented in either reported post.
For a short video
- Decide who will call whom and in what order before recording.
- Keep the camera stable and choose a quiet place where participants can hear one another.
- Make sure everyone is comfortable being recorded and that the family agrees before the video is posted.
What to verify before sharing a reported image
The names and family details in the news accounts are attributed to social-post text or the reporting outlet. Check the original account if you need to confirm them. The reports do not establish whether the two Nigerian posts feature the same family, and original-post availability, participant consent and reuse permission are not confirmed here. Obtain permission before embedding or republishing someone else’s photo or video.
