TheWrap’s October 14, 2024 report named these five films and placements on the domestic chart:

The gross figures are those reported in an October 17, 2024 article by Bounding Into Comics, which said its chart was sourced from The Numbers. They are figures for that chart period, not current lifetime totals. Bounding Into Comics’ October 17 report and TheWrap’s October 14 report cover the same five titles.
What made this chart unusual?
The five films did not represent a single animation style or audience. The list mixed a family adventure, an animated music documentary, a franchise film, anime and a stop-motion re-release. Their shared chart presence is the notable point; the reporting does not establish that any particular genre, release strategy or distributor caused the result.

TheWrap also noted that The Wild Robot was adapted from Peter Brown’s children’s novel. In that October 14 article, it reported the film was nearing $150 million worldwide and that Transformers One had passed $50 million domestically and $100 million worldwide. Those were milestones at the time of publication, not updated totals.
How strong is the “first time in history” claim?
TheWrap characterized the result as a historic first: five of the weekend’s top ten films were animated. That is the contemporaneous report’s description of the October 11, 2024 domestic chart. The published reporting cited here does not independently reconstruct every earlier weekend chart, so the all-time superlative should be attributed to TheWrap rather than treated as a separately verified historical audit.
