Fountain of Youth is Guy Ritchie’s contemporary action-adventure about estranged siblings Luke and Charlotte Purdue, played by John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, joining forces to hunt a legendary source of immortality. Ritchie described its approach as “in the vein of Indiana Jones but contemporary”—a tonal comparison, not a connection to that franchise. The film premiered on Apple TV+ on May 23, 2025.
What is Fountain of Youth about?
Luke and Charlotte Purdue are estranged siblings with a shared connection to archaeological artifacts. They reunite for a global heist and follow history-based clues in pursuit of the mythical Fountain of Youth. The quest could change their lives and may lead to immortality.
Director Guy Ritchie said the siblings “find an alibi as to why they need to unify to find this particular treasure.” The story’s engine is therefore not only the hunt itself, but also the siblings’ need to work together despite their separation.
Luke and Charlotte’s different paths
Krasinski described Luke as adventurous, reckless, and unwilling to stand still. Portman characterized Charlotte as someone who chose a more stable adult life before her brother pulled her back into adventure. Those are the actors’ descriptions of their characters, and they suggest a contrast between Luke’s restless approach and Charlotte’s settled life.

Why is it compared with Indiana Jones?
Ritchie’s description—“in the vein of Indiana Jones but contemporary”—points to a globe-trotting treasure hunt, historical clues, and large-scale adventure, updated for a present-day story. It does not mean Fountain of Youth is part of the Indiana Jones franchise.
Ritchie also said he wanted to move beyond a genre he knew well: “I found myself feeling like if I wasn’t too careful, I was ending up in a comedy-action-gangster genre, of which, of course, I’m comfortable and enjoy, but at some point, I thought, you have to spread your wings as a writer-director.” The film marks that shift toward a different kind of adventure for the director.
