Baahubali: The Beginning is worth watching if you want a Telugu-language fantasy epic built around outsized action, family conflict and visual spectacle. Its scale is not just a matter of grand settings: cinematography, production design, music, effects and stunt work combine to make the world feel deliberately monumental. The trade-off is that this is the first chapter of a larger story, not a self-contained conclusion, and its long runtime asks for patience.
What is Baahubali: The Beginning about?
Directed and scripted by S. S. Rajamouli, from a story by V. Vijayendra Prasad, the 2015 film launches the Baahubali saga. It mixes fantasy, action and family conflict in an expansive world of kingdoms and power struggles. This installment establishes the larger story rather than resolving it; its ending leaves the saga in progress.
That first-chapter structure matters when deciding whether to watch: expect a substantial epic with a continuing story, not a standalone film that ties every thread together.
Does the spectacle earn its scale?
Much of the film’s appeal lies in how its elements work together. K. K. Senthil Kumar’s cinematography frames the action and large environments; production designer Sabu Cyril helps give the imagined world physical presence; M. M. Keeravaani’s music, P. M. Satheesh’s sound design and Peter Hein’s stunt choreography contribute to the impact. V. Srinivas Mohan supervised visual effects.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The technical choices supported that effects-heavy approach without being the sole explanation for its impact. In ARRI’s 2015 production report, cinematographer Senthil Kumar said the extensive effects were one reason he chose to record ARRIRAW. The report describes his use of ARRI ALEXA XT cameras, Open Gate and Master Primes. Those are production details, not a substitute for the coordinated work of the film’s wider crew.
Screen Daily critic Allan Hunter, reviewing the film on July 20, 2015, called it “a gung-ho, crowd-pleasing Telugu-language epic” and praised its energy and elaborate visual effects. That is one critic’s assessment, not a claim of universal agreement. Hunter also noted that the film runs for more than two and a half hours. Google Play lists a runtime of 159 minutes for its version; runtimes can vary by edition.

What recognition did the film receive?
The film’s official awards page lists wins for Best Feature Film and Best Special Effects at India’s 63rd National Film Awards, along with other awards and festival appearances. These honors recognize both the film and its effects work; they do not, by themselves, establish a consensus on every aspect of the movie.
Is it available in Hindi or Telugu?
The original film is Telugu-language. Physical releases have appeared in different markets and formats, but available audio and subtitles depend on the specific edition. For example, Twin’s Japanese distributor page lists a 2017 Blu-ray with Telugu and Japanese audio, Japanese subtitles and making-of material. A separate catalogue records a Malayalam DVD edition released in India in 2015. Neither listing tells you what is currently in stock in your region.
