His Apprehend pull makes careless spacing dangerous, while Noxian Guillotine becomes more threatening as his bleed stacks build. These mechanics explain the matchup; the right response still depends on your champion, level, items, wave position, and timing.
Understand what makes Darius dangerous
Riot classifies Darius as a Fighter/Tank. His threat is not just the damage of any one hit: his passive and abilities reward him for staying in a fight long enough to build pressure.
Hemorrhage rewards repeated hits
Darius’s Hemorrhage passive causes his attacks and damaging abilities to apply stacking bleed. At maximum stacks, he gains a major Attack Damage increase. A short exchange that ends before he builds stacks is therefore different from a prolonged fight in which he reaches his passive’s maximum. Riot’s Darius champion page describes the ability.
Decimate has a more dangerous outer hit
Decimate is a wide axe swing. The blade deals more damage than the handle, and Darius heals based on champions or large monsters hit by the blade. When he begins the swing, recognize that the part of the attack that connects matters; the move is not one uniform damage zone. Riot’s ability description explains the blade and handle difference.

Apprehend threatens your spacing
Apprehend pulls enemies toward Darius. That means distance is not automatically safety if you remain within the threat of the pull: consider whether your champion can disengage, interrupt, or otherwise respond before choosing to approach or continue trading. Riot’s champion page describes the pull.
His ultimate scales with bleed
Noxian Guillotine deals true damage that increases with Hemorrhage stacks. If it kills its target, its cooldown is briefly refreshed. Treat the ultimate as part of the same pressure pattern: allowing stacks to accumulate can make the finishing threat more serious. See Riot’s description of Noxian Guillotine.

How to approach a trade
- Do not extend an exchange without a reason. Repeated hits help Darius build Hemorrhage, and maximum stacks bring a major Attack Damage increase. Look for a trade your champion can end or turn around rather than assuming that staying in range is favorable.
- Account for Apprehend before committing. If your plan depends on walking away after one hit, consider whether Darius can pull you back. The value of spacing depends on your champion’s movement, range, and available response.
- Read Decimate’s hit zone. When the swing comes, distinguish the blade from the handle rather than treating every connection as equivalent. Its blade hit does more damage and is the hit that supports Darius’s healing against champions or large monsters.
- Reassess as stacks build. A trade that was reasonable at its start may become much riskier as Hemorrhage approaches maximum and Noxian Guillotine’s damage increases with stacks.
These are mechanics-based principles, not guaranteed winning trades. Your champion’s kit, level, items, lane position, and timing can change what is safe or useful.
Choosing a champion or response
There is no universal counter-pick established by the available evidence, and the title does not specify your champion, rank, patch, or game mode. When comparing options for this matchup, focus on the qualities that change Darius’s ability to hold you in a fight:

- Range and disengage: Can you threaten him without remaining in reach, and can you leave after a short exchange?
- Engage response: Can your champion avoid or interrupt his approach or pull, and can you use that response reliably?
- Extended-fight durability: Can you survive if the exchange lasts long enough for Hemorrhage to build?
- Player comfort and lane conditions: A theoretical advantage matters less if you cannot use the champion’s tools consistently or the wave and timing are unfavorable.
A non-official Darius guide from TJPuma discusses pressure, bleed-enabled follow-ups, and charged versus uncharged Apprehend options. Treat that as guide advice, not Riot documentation or a universal matchup rule.

Riot’s Patch 11.10 notes, published May 11, 2021, increased Apprehend’s cooldown. Riot said the change was intended to give opponents more opportunities to farm or mount a counterattack. That is historical context, not a current cooldown value or confirmation of today’s live balance. Check the current in-game tooltip or current patch information before relying on a specific cooldown. Riot Games’ Patch 11.10 notes document the change.
