If your FFmpeg stream reaches YouTube but has no sound, first check YouTube’s exact Live Control Room error, then verify that FFmpeg is selecting and sending an audio stream. India is not an established cause: the official guidance reviewed gives general encoder and network checks, not an India-specific audio restriction. YouTube’s missing-audio warning is: “Your encoder is sending no audio.”
Read YouTube’s error before changing FFmpeg settings
Open YouTube Live Control Room, note the exact warning and when it appears, and inspect the preview. YouTube distinguishes a missing audio stream from multiple streams, unsupported codecs, and incorrect channel, sample-rate, or bitrate settings. These point to different fixes; a connected stream with a “no audio” warning needs an audio-path check, not an RTMPS port change.
YouTube says its pipeline requires audio on all videos. If the warning names a codec or audio setting, address that specific setting rather than changing unrelated video or connection options.
Trace the sound from source to viewer
- Listen to the source. Play the input recording or check the capture source independently. If it is silent, resolve that upstream issue before changing the encoder.
- Check FFmpeg’s selected audio. Confirm the input contains an audio stream and that the command selects or maps the intended stream. The right mapping depends on the actual input streams; there is no single safe FFmpeg command for every file.
- Check the encoded output or local archive. Listen to a local recording or archive and inspect whether it contains audio. If the source has sound but the encoded output does not, examine stream selection/mapping and audio encoder options. YouTube recommends checking the encoder stream, local archive integrity, encoder errors, and CPU load.
- Compare with YouTube playback. Monitor the Live Control Room preview and, where practical, test playback from another device or network. If the local output is audible but delivery is not, check YouTube’s status and outbound network path before blaming local playback.
Use a simple, supported audio configuration
For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. Send one audio stream, with no more than two channels for mono or stereo. YouTube’s current Help recommendations for stereo are 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. These are recommendations, not proof that every other value causes silence. YouTube’s settings guidance lists 48 kHz for 5.1 audio; RTMP/RTMPS supports 5.1 only with AAC.

As a diagnostic test, use one known-good audio stream with a supported codec and YouTube’s recommended stereo settings. Once it works, reintroduce more complex routing one change at a time. YouTube identifies multiple audio streams and unsupported codec, channel, sample-rate, or bitrate settings as distinct ingestion errors.
Separate audio faults from RTMP/RTMPS connection faults
Transport troubleshooting is relevant when FFmpeg cannot connect, times out, or reports SSL trouble. Copy the current stream URL from Live Control Room, verify the selected protocol and server, and confirm the encoder supports RTMPS if you are using an RTMPS endpoint. YouTube suggests trying port 443 if an SSL error persists.

These checks address connection or SSL failures; they do not add audio to an output that contains no audio stream. If the encoder output and archive sound right but delivery is poor, check outbound upload capacity and reliability. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of upload bandwidth available beyond the total stream bitrate. That is network headroom advice, not a threshold that proves the cause of silence.
Does streaming from India change the diagnosis?
The official YouTube guidance reviewed does not establish an India-specific RTMP audio rule or regional outage that explains this symptom. Do not assume India blocks or suppresses audio, or that switching ingest region will fix it. Check the actual outgoing connection and the stream status shown in Live Control Room.
