Feud: Capote vs. the Swans is an eight-episode FX limited series about writer Truman Capote’s closeness to a circle of wealthy New York women—and the rupture after he used intimate details about people in that circle as literary material. The series draws on Laurence Leamer’s book Capote’s Women, but it is a dramatization, not a documentary record of every conversation or scene.
What is Feud: Capote vs. the Swans about?
The series follows Capote as he moves within an elite New York social circle whose prominent women he nicknamed the Swans. Its central conflict is the collision between that intimate access and his work as a writer: material associated with his friends became the source of a public literary scandal and personal fallout.
FX describes the program as an eight-episode limited series based on Laurence Leamer’s Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era. Tom Hollander plays Capote. The Swans at the center of the story include figures such as Babe Paley, Slim Keith, C.Z. Guest, and Lee Radziwill.
What happened between Truman Capote and the Swans?
TIME’s 2024 account identifies the historical flashpoint as “La Côte Basque 1965,” a story Capote published in Esquire in 1975. TIME describes it as presenting thinly veiled accounts of socialites’ private lives; its publication triggered a fallout with members of his circle. The series uses that break to dramatize the tensions between friendship, trust, celebrity, and the use of private lives in fiction.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That historical outline should not be confused with a scene-by-scene factual record. The show adapts events and people for television. Dialogue, private exchanges, and the way a particular moment is staged are part of the drama unless independently established elsewhere.
What is the series based on?
FX names Laurence Leamer’s 2021 book Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era as the series’ basis. The book is a useful further read for the story behind the adaptation; the existence of a source biography does not make the series itself documentary footage or a verbatim account.
