CBS News reported on June 7, 2024, that the FBI had released 475 pages of records related to the 1994 killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The report came about two months after O.J. Simpson died on April 10, 2024. The FBI Vault now lists nine parts of Simpson-related records, so 475 pages describes the release reported at the time—not necessarily the full archive currently available.
What did the FBI release about O.J. Simpson?
The 475-page count and June 7, 2024, publication date were reported by CBS News. The records relate to the investigation of the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The FBI’s Vault provides the primary source for the records it hosts: its Orenthal James Simpson subject page lists Part 01 through Part 09, with Part 09 marked final, and links to the files. Part 01 is available directly as a PDF.
The CBS figure should not be read as the total page count for all nine parts currently listed by the FBI. The official subject page is the place to check the archive’s current parts and access the documents.
What topics do the records cover?
The Black Vault, which hosts an overview of the records, describes material concerning FBI assistance to the Los Angeles Police Department, leads involving Bruno Magli shoes, tips, communications, surveillance, and forensic work. That is the archive publisher’s summary, not a finding by the FBI that any particular lead was valid. Specific claims should be checked against the underlying scanned records.

The files are records connected to investigative work. Their presence in a government archive does not, by itself, establish the truth of a tip, prove a theory, or amount to a new conclusion about the case.
Why did the FBI release the files after Simpson died?
The timing is clear; a causal connection is not. Simpson died on April 10, 2024, and CBS News reported the release on June 7. The sources cited here do not say that his death triggered or accelerated publication.

The FBI describes its Vault as a collection of records processed under the Freedom of Information Act, along with proactive disclosures and frequently requested records. That general explanation does not identify why these particular records became available when they did.
What does the FBI’s later letter say?
A February 4, 2025, letter from the FBI, reproduced in The Black Vault’s archive, describes the records as an “interim release of information responsive to your FOIA request” and says the requester would be notified when additional releases were available. The letter is signed by Michael G. Seidel, Section Chief of the FBI’s Record/Information Dissemination Section, Information Management Division. It shows that at least one related FOIA response was still being handled as an interim release in February 2025; it does not establish that the June 2024 publication was caused by Simpson’s death.
Where can I read the FBI’s O.J. Simpson files?
Start with the FBI Vault subject page to see the listed parts, then open the part you want to read. The FBI’s general FOIA information page explains the agency’s records-access process and links to its request portal. The available Vault files are public records; they are not a substitute for evaluating the documents in context.
