Spoilers for FBI Season 7, Episode 8, “Riptide.” The episode’s strongest hook is the collision between a cargo-heist investigation and OA’s reunion with an old Army friend. But the review headline’s “Cold Case actor” claim is not supported by the accessible review excerpt: it does not identify the performer, so that casting detail remains unverified.

What happens in “Riptide”?

“Riptide” is the eighth episode of FBI Season 7. It originally aired on CBS on December 17, 2024, according to CBS’s episode notice and TheTVDB’s episode listing.

The case begins when three Customs Officers are shot dead during a cargo heist. To help determine whether the crime involved an inside job, the team brings in OA’s old Army friend Clay. That setup gives the episode two strands: a procedural investigation into the heist and a personal story built around how much OA can trust someone from his past.

Why does OA shoot Clay?

Spoiler: Clay turns against OA during the case, and OA shoots him. In a December 17, 2024 TV Insider interview, Zeeko Zaki discussed learning after the third episode that OA’s relationship with Clay would end with Clay’s death. The betrayal makes the episode’s central conflict more than a reunion gone sour: OA’s obligation to stop the threat collides with his connection to a friend.

Does the “Cold Case actor” casting claim hold up?

The review excerpt frames casting as the episode’s most interesting feature and refers to a performer associated with another crime drama. However, the excerpt does not name that performer, and the full IMDb-hosted review page was not accessible in the available source material. Without a verified credit or the complete review, it would be misleading to identify a “Cold Case” actor or claim that a particular performance saves the episode.

What can be assessed from the available material is the episode’s broad approach: guest casting is presented as a major appeal, while the OA–Clay storyline supplies the emotional weight. Whether the guest performance earns the headline’s praise cannot be judged reliably without knowing which actor or scene the reviewer meant.

How does the episode balance the case and the personal story?

The cargo-heist investigation provides the procedural frame, with the question of an inside job giving the team a concrete problem to solve. Clay’s arrival makes that case personal for OA, and the eventual confrontation shifts the emphasis from investigative suspense to the cost of trusting an old friend.

The review excerpt describes the hour as combining action, an emotional subplot and a shocking ending, and judges that it closes the show’s run before a break on a high note. Those are the reviewer’s opinions rather than independently measurable facts. The episode’s clearest dramatic payoff, based on the confirmed plot, is the tragic resolution of OA and Clay’s friendship.

Where was “Riptide” available to watch?
